On Do paper - a unique material with traditional Vietnamese beauty, the lines and colors are strong and emotions are released. It seems that the unique foundation that Do paper creates resonates, helping the artist express his ideas through his drawings.
Those are the impressions of the exhibition "Men tinh" opening on the evening of October 17 by artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong, an impressive face of contemporary Vietnamese fine arts.
The exhibition introduces a series of paintings depicting wine bottles, red cloth, and time-stained wood panels - everyday images that contain symbols of love, memories, and connection. The works represent two parallel worlds : one quiet and profound, and the other vibrant and brilliant, reflecting the artist's perspective on love, people, and contemporary cities.

Do paper is both mysterious and difficult to conquer, yet simple. When painting on Do paper, the artist not only needs to be creative but also needs to be in tune with it. Exploiting the expressive power of traditional Do paper, “Men Tinh” is a unique artistic journey where artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong explores the depth of emotions and cultural memories of the nation. He does not paint large-scale works, but with modest-sized but delicate paintings, each work evokes the harmony between human emotions, indigenous culture and modern breath.
Artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong confided: "I chose Do paper - a traditional Vietnamese material - as a basis for my creations. The rustic surface of Do paper helps the image become both illusory and marked by time, blending with the strong colors and lines of urban life."
The exhibition runs until October 27 at Area 75 Art & Auction Center, 75 Hang Bo, Hanoi./ .
Artist Nguyen Tuan Cuong was born in 1963, graduated from the Central College of Music and Art Education (now the Central University of Art Education) in 1989 and the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2006. He was a lecturer at the Central University of Art Education from 2007-2024, and was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Fine Arts Textbook series (from grades 1 to 9).
