The person mentioned is Ms. Cong Thi Nghia, also known as Thu Trang.
Ms. Cong Thi Nghia was born in 1932 in Hanoi into a petty bourgeois family. After finishing primary school, Ms. Nghia followed her family to Saigon to live.
From a young age, she was considered intelligent, studious, and highly independent. She was very good at studying, especially French, and was passionate about writing, journalism, and especially historical research.
At the age of 20, she joined the Viet Minh organization, with the mission of espionage activities within Saigon - Gia Dinh city.
During the years 1950-1952, in order to suppress protests in all cities of the South, the French colonialists and their henchmen relentlessly searched, arrested, and suppressed the patriotic movement and former resistance fighters.
Spy Cong Thi Nghia, in her role as a journalist, with her quickness and intelligence of the profession, and possessing a beautiful, lovely face, easily approached many high-ranking officials of the Saigon government, collecting much important news.
The beautiful appearance of Ms. Thu Trang on the first day of her coronation as Miss.
However, in July 1952, French secret police discovered her role in the organization and she was arrested and detained at Catinat police station (now the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City). This place was considered "hell on earth". The enemy used all kinds of barbaric physical torture and mental terror but could not get any information out of her.
After a while, she was released. With her existing knowledge, she attended a short course and began her career as a journalist, specializing in writing about culture and arts. She signed the pen name Thu Trang, which is the main pen name for all her writings and historical research.
In 1955, the Ngo Dinh Diem government announced that it would hold a beauty contest, with the jury consisting of many dignitaries, intellectuals, and journalists. During an interview with the jury to report on the news, someone advised her: "You are so beautiful, you should register for this contest." Hearing this, Thu Trang immediately joined for fun.
Outstandingly surpassing a series of beauties, she won the crown. After becoming Miss, Thu Trang created a great attraction for the public. She entered the cinema with roles in the film "We Want to Live" (directed by Vinh Noan), playing the role of Kieu Nguyet Nga in the film "Luc Van Tien" (directed by Tong Ngoc Hap).
In the revolutionary momentum, the intelligence soldiers of Saigon city operated like shuttles, exploiting many important news sent back to the base. Miss Thu Trang, as a famous movie star, had many opportunities to approach the upper class and officials of the Saigon government , exploiting many confidential information.
But not long after, a disaster struck, she became pregnant unexpectedly. Because of the impact on traditional customs, she was boycotted, her reputation completely collapsed. This incident marked the end of Thu Trang's career as a journalist and spy. She decided to leave everything behind to go to France.
In France, she focused on research on Uncle Ho and Phan Chau Trinh. In 1978, she successfully defended her thesis "The Activities of Phan Chau Trinh" and became a doctor of history at the University of Paris VII.
In her old age, she was invited to lecture at many universities in Vietnam. For many reasons, she rarely revealed that she was Miss Thu Trang - Cong Thi Nghia. Colleagues and students mostly only knew her as a doctor in France.
