The feelings are not in the script
At the recent graduation ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, new mechanical engineering engineer Nguyen Nhat Truong made many people cry when he mentioned "his mother's faith and the poor household book".
In his speech, when mentioning his mother, Truong said: “My only luggage was my mother’s faith and the poor household book. I was not a good child at that time.

Today, in my hand is an excellent degree. I just hope that in the future, my mother will always feel secure with my decisions and have a lot of faith in me."
Then Truong mentioned his late father: "Dad, no matter where you are, I hope you can witness this moment of mine. The moment I grow up and can take care of myself, I hope you will be at ease and proud of me."
In the graduation hall that day, Truong’s mother, Ms. Vu Thi Kim Huong burst into tears. Not only her, many other parents also choked up and shed tears when hearing Truong’s sharing.
With the outstanding achievement of receiving a graduation certificate, receiving the certificate ahead of schedule with excellent results throughout the course, Truong was chosen to speak at this year's graduation ceremony.
Truong said that he is limited in his ability to speak and communicate, especially in front of a crowd. When assigned the above task, he prepared his speech carefully to reduce his nervousness.
But for the part about “mother’s belief and the poor household book” sent to mother and father, Truong said there was no script. When talking about his mother, those were the things that came out naturally from his own journey.
When Mr. Truong was alive, the whole family worked as farmers and their life was quite stable. Since his death in 2017, only the mother has taken care of the children.
Truong’s mother worked at a wood company. After the Covid-19 pandemic, the job became difficult, so she switched to sewing at a store. However, she still encouraged her children: “No matter how hard it is, I will still support you and your sister to study.”
Truong’s family was granted a poor household book until 2024 to… escape poverty. Truong’s journey over the years, especially his years at university, was closely associated with the poor household book.
With a poor household book and good academic results, he was able to access subsidies for disadvantaged students, scholarships, etc. Along with working part-time early, Truong helped his mother get through his university years.
Once a rebel, moved forward thanks to mother's faith
With a GPA of 3.69/4, Nhat Truong is one of the new graduates who graduated with honors, half a year ahead of schedule, at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education this time. In his speech, Truong said: “In 12 years of high school, I have never received any awards.”

Truong said that he did not study well in high school. Not to mention, in middle school, like many of his friends, Truong had a period of instability and rebellion that made his mother upset.
However, Mom has never given up or lost faith in Truong. Mom always encourages Truong to pursue his dream, and Mom will also try her best to accompany her children.
Truong has 3 sisters, besides Truong, there is an older sister born in 1999 studying at Binh Duong University, the younger sister was born in 2004, one year younger than Truong, studying at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport.
Her mother raised three children to go to university, so Truong could feel her hardships and determination. It was her determination and belief that gave Truong the motivation to excel and achieve good results in university.
The 22-year-old new engineer confided that he is a quiet person and rarely shows affection to his relatives. Deep down, Truong hopes that one day he will be strong enough for his mother to rely on him and have more time to spend with her relatives.
