Become an AI engineer while still a fourth-year university student.
Le Van Tan, a student majoring in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), recently graduated with honors, achieving a GPA of 9.1/10. Beyond his impressive academic achievements, this student also made his mark by securing a dream job with a high salary as an AI engineer at OPSWAT Software Vietnam even before receiving his diploma.
During his time at university, Tan participated in many academic competitions and online projects such as: UIT Data Science Challenge, Ho Chi Minh City AI Challenge, RMIT GenAI and Cyber Security Hackathon... Notably, at the RMIT GenAI and Cyber Security Hackathon, a competition focusing on solving cybersecurity problems using large language models, Tan won second place overall. Tan shared that winning second place gave him extra confidence when interviewing for a position at OPSWAT Software Vietnam because the competition's content was relevant to the company's expertise.
In addition to studying theory, Van Tan also undertook many projects to practice and reinforce his learned knowledge. Coincidentally, when the company opened recruitment last December, it was thanks to the projects Tan had used for self-practice after his theory classes, combined with experience from previous competitions, that he met the recruitment criteria and landed a job in his field, becoming an AI engineer while still a fourth-year university student.
The "learn only once" mentality
Having graduated from university with excellent grades and secured a stable job, Van Tan still harbors the ambition to pursue a master's degree. The newly graduated engineer stated that he will be studying an applied-oriented master's program. Explaining this choice, Tan confided: "I want to dedicate more time to gaining practical experience and working on more projects to see where I need to improve and what areas I need to expand my knowledge in. I will then research and learn more about those areas in my master's program."
Furthermore, another reason stems from the core characteristics of the field Tấn is pursuing. Tấn believes that in the field of AI technology, engineers need thorough understanding and specialized knowledge to excel. Therefore, Tấn wants to learn while working to gain practical experience and further hone his knowledge.
"Although it will be quite challenging, I've decided to choose this path because I want to fulfill my passion for exploration and learning, and also to keep up with the rapid development and changes in this industry," Tan further shared.
Taking Albert Einstein's philosophy, "Anyone can know, but the important thing is to understand," as his guiding principle, Tan always maintained the spirit of "learning only once" throughout his university years. For Van Tan, once he started learning, he had to learn thoroughly and deeply. This seriousness helped him complete his program early and graduate with an excellent degree.
On her upcoming postgraduate studies, the former AI student from the Faculty of Science (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) stated that she will continue to maintain this spirit not only to conquer new knowledge but also to prepare for further advancements in the future.
