Nam O fish sauce village (Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city) was formed over 400 years ago. This is one of the few traditional fish sauce villages that still exist in the country.
The craft village has been recognized as a National Intangible Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2019 and has been oriented by Da Nang City to develop traditional products associated with community tourism.
Today, Nam O fish sauce is not only a spice but also a part of the history, culture and identity of the local community of Quang Nam - Da Nang.
In recent years, Nam O fish sauce has been widely promoted to consumers. While traditional craft villages have the intervention of modern machinery, Nam O fish sauce is made by hand.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Vinh - Chairman of Nam O Traditional Fish Sauce Village Association, Nam O fish sauce is processed without preservatives. In business, each household is always conscious of the brand that their ancestors have worked hard to build, so they always keep the original fish sauce flavor intact.
At the program to promote Nam O fish sauce products, a typical OCOP product - Lien Chieu 2023 held from August 11 to 13, Mr. Tran Cong Nguyen - Vice Chairman of Lien Chieu District People's Committee - said that Nam O fish sauce craft village is creating a brand in the domestic market.
Over the years, the work of preserving and developing fish sauce craft villages has always been of interest to authorities at all levels. The development of OCOP products is one of the activities aimed at creating typical products for Lien Chieu district.
Activities need to have systematic investment connections to improve the quality of OCOP products, thereby increasing the value and income for people. In addition, promotional activities in fairs and exhibitions are activities that must be emphasized and need to be organized more regularly.
This is a bridge to help bring Lien Chieu products to consumers and distributors in the area, stimulate domestic consumption, and contribute to the implementation of the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".
