In a statement posted on the company’s website on July 6, OceanGate said it would no longer send private individuals to explore the wreck of the Titanic or any other location. The company also declined to comment further at the request of the media.

It is understood that the OceanGate website still shows highlight reels of its equipment and expeditions, as well as descriptions of its exploration services such as tours of the Titanic wreck.

OceanGate is a privately held company founded in 2009 by Stockton Rush and Guillermo Söhnlein. Over the years, OceanGate has taken clients to explore various sites, including the wrecks of the Andrea Doria and the Titanic, using commercial submersibles.

On June 18, 2023, the news that OceanGate's Titan submersible exploded while exploring the 111-year-old Titanic wreck at a depth of 3,810m at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean shocked the world . The US Coast Guard (USCG) confirmed that the Titan suffered a "catastrophic" explosion that killed all five people on board, including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. Four others died in the Titan submersible explosion: British explorer Hamish Harding, 58; French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77; and British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his 19-year-old son Suleman.

Last week, divers recovered the wreckage of the Titan, which contained body parts believed to be those of the victims. The wreckage was brought to the eastern Canadian port of St. John's, Newfoundland. The USCG will take the evidence to a U.S. port so medical experts can analyze the remains.

Meanwhile, the USCG and Canadian authorities continue to open separate investigations into the cause of the Titan submersible explosion tragedy.

Captain Jason Neubauer, head of the Titan investigation team, believes the evidence collected will provide investigators with important insights into the cause of the explosion. “There is still a lot of work to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic failure of the Titan to help ensure that such a tragedy does not happen again,” said Captain Jason Neubauer.
