On the afternoon of July 18, leaders of Boeing Corporation (USA) and Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on studying strategic initiatives to improve the safety and efficiency of Vietnam's air traffic management system.

Accordingly, the Memorandum of Understanding aims to improve safety, capacity and efficiency in Vietnam's air traffic management system, especially in the context of strong growth in the aviation market and the key project of Long Thanh International Airport, expected to be put into operation at the end of this year.

The Memorandum of Understanding between VATM and Boeing focuses on four pillars of strategic cooperation, including:

Airspace Management: Implement initiatives to optimize airspace exploitation, especially in high-density areas such as Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh.

System-wide information system (SWIM): Develop an integrated platform that enables real-time data transmission and exploitation between units in the aviation ecosystem.

Applying new generation technology: Research and apply advanced technologies according to ICAO (ASBU) recommendations and upgrade roadmap and the NextGen technology framework of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Training and human resource development: Develop specialized training programs for technical staff, flight operations and senior management to meet the requirements of operating modern aviation systems.

At the event, Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of the Board of Members of VATM, emphasized the importance of putting Long Thanh International Airport into operation as planned by the end of 2025.

“I appreciate the priority of implementing the work package related to airspace organization and flight method design for the Long Thanh - Tan Son Nhat - Bien Hoa airport cluster. This is a national project, of special importance when the target time to put the airport into actual operation is very close," he expressed.

He added that in the first 6 months of 2025, VATM operated more than 460,000 safe flights, an increase of 8.8% compared to the same period in 2024, showing that the demand for flight operations continues to increase. On the one hand, this is a great opportunity for the flight management industry, but on the other hand, it also poses challenges that require VATM to continuously innovate and improve the quality of flight operations assurance services for VATM's customers, who are also Boeing's customers.

Mr. Mike Sinnett, Vice President of Product Strategy, Product Development and Development Programs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said that air passenger traffic in Vietnam is expected to double in the next decade, reaching more than 75 million passengers per year.

Boeing is committed to supporting Vietnam's civil aviation industry and providing long-term solutions to improve the safety and sustainability of modern air traffic systems.

According to a Boeing representative, the company is building a digital model for Ho Chi Minh City's airspace - including Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports - to support the effective evaluation of airspace exploitation options before practical application.
