According to the announcement of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam on December 7, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and his wife will pay a state visit to Vietnam from December 12 to 13.

The visit took place at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife, and President Vo Van Thuong and his wife.

This is Xi Jinping's third visit to Vietnam as General Secretary and President of China. The previous visits took place in 2015 and 2017, also at the state level.

Vietnam is the second country that Xi Jinping will visit in 2023 without multilateral activities. The first country was Russia in March 2023.

The Chinese leader will visit South Africa for a BRICS summit and state visit in August 2023. He will then travel to the US for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November 2023.

The visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping took place on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Vietnam and China.

It is expected that during the visit, the General Secretary and President of China will have important talks and meetings with key Vietnamese leaders.

Vietnam - China relations have maintained positive development momentum and achieved many important results in recent times.

High-level exchanges and contacts take place regularly, notably the historic official visit to China by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in October 2022 and high-level visits and exchanges in 2023.

Exchanges and cooperation through the Party, National Assembly/People's Congress, Fatherland Front/Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference channels and between ministries, sectors, people's organizations and localities of the two countries have been continuously promoted and deepened.

Substantive cooperation areas have achieved many encouraging progresses, with increasingly improved quality.

China continues to be Vietnam's largest trading partner, while Vietnam maintains its position as China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fourth largest in the world by country criteria.
