The Kyiv Independent , in a press conference on July 15, President Trump said he advised his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, not to attack the Russian capital Moscow.

Trump's comments came after the Financial Times , citing unnamed sources, reported that Trump had implicitly encouraged Ukraine to launch attacks deep into Russian territory during a phone call in early June. Trump reportedly asked Zelensky whether Ukraine could attack Moscow or St. Petersburg if the US provided long-range weapons.
However, in a statement to Newsweek , White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt accused the Financial Times of taking its words completely out of context.
"President Trump is only asking questions, not encouraging attacks. He is working tirelessly to end this conflict," Ms. Karoline Leavitt emphasized.
At a press conference on July 15, when asked by reporters whether Ukraine should target Moscow or attack deeper into Russia, Mr. Trump replied: "No, he (Zelensky) should not attack Moscow."
President Trump also told reporters that the US has no plans to provide long-range weapons to Kiev.
A day earlier, President Trump pledged to provide more weapons to Kiev. Mr. Trump also announced that he would impose “secondary” tariffs of up to 100% on Russia’s trading partners if President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a deal to end the conflict in Ukraine within 50 days.
