Earlier in the day, Harris’s campaign said she had accepted an invitation to participate in a debate hosted by CNN on October 23. This would be the second debate between the two candidates, following a meeting on September 10 that most commentators said Harris won.

"The American people deserve another chance to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their votes," said Jen O'Malley Dillon, Harris' campaign manager.
Ms Harris also posted on X, hoping that Trump would join her.
However, speaking at a rally in the battleground state of North Carolina, Mr Trump said he would like to participate in the debate, but that the idea was no longer feasible because early voting had already begun. "It's too late, the voting has already begun," Mr Trump said.
He also told the crowd that while CNN was "very fair" when he debated President Joe Biden in June, "they won't be fair anymore."
The announcement comes as several states have begun early voting in an extremely tight race that is expected to hinge on seven battleground states, including North Carolina.
Mr Trump won North Carolina in the 2020 election against Mr Biden.
However, Ms Harris is aiming to flip the state for the Democrats, thanks to strong support from the African American community and young voters.
The presidential race remains tight and every vote will decide the outcome of the election. Mr Trump once again refused to say whether he would accept the election results if he lost.
