US President Donald Trump said on February 6 that the Gaza Strip will be "handed over to the United States" by Israel when the fighting ends.
Writing on the social network Truth Social on February 6, Mr. Trump stated: “The Gaza Strip will be given to the United States by Israel after the war ends. The Palestinians will be resettled in much safer and more beautiful communities, with new and modern homes in the area. They will have a real chance to be happy, safe and free.”
The US leader added that Washington was working with development teams around the world , and would carefully begin the process of building what Mr Trump said would become “one of the greatest and most spectacular developments on earth”.

Mr. Trump did not specify on what basis Israel could “return Gaza” to US control. Mr. Trump’s latest statement came in the context of the parties involved in the ceasefire and hostage release negotiations between Israel and Hamas forces in Gaza starting the process of discussing phase 2 of the agreement.
Mr. Trump was present at the US Capitol building on February 6.
On February 4, Mr. Trump's statement about the idea of the US taking over Gaza to rebuild the strip of land, which was heavily damaged in the war, was criticized by many countries in the Middle East and US allies. Meanwhile, Israeli officials are said to support this idea. According to the Financial Times , Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on February 6 that he had ordered the army to prepare a plan to allow Gaza residents to "voluntarily" relocate.
White House officials on February 5 emphasized President Trump’s idea of temporarily relocating Palestinians in Gaza so that cleanup and construction can take place. In a post on February 6, Mr. Trump said the reconstruction process would not require a US military presence in Gaza and that stability in the area would be guaranteed.
Palestinians have opposed Mr Trump’s proposal, fearing that Israel would not allow refugees to return to Gaza. Meanwhile, Egypt has warned that demanding the relocation of Palestinians would destabilise the region and undermine the peace accord between Egypt and Israel.
