On February 14th, OpenAI announced that its board of directors had unanimously rejected a $97.4 billion takeover bid from billionaire Elon Musk.

"OpenAI is not for sale, and the board has unanimously rejected Mr. Musk's latest attempt to control a competitor," Reuters quoted OpenAI Chairman Bret Taylor as saying.
This move marks a new chapter in the long-standing conflict between billionaire Musk and OpenAI, which stemmed from disagreements over the company's direction. After Musk left OpenAI in 2019, the company established a for-profit arm, attracting hundreds of billions of dollars in funding. This fueled accusations from the world's richest man that OpenAI had violated its original mission by prioritizing profit over the public good.
