The film "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (Vietnamese title: "Multiverse War") received 7 golden statues out of 11 nominations. The film won important categories such as: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor - Actress, Best Original Screenplay...

The fear of extinction

The film is directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, produced by independent film studio A24. The story revolves around Evelyn Wang (played by Michelle Yeoh) - a Chinese immigrant woman, a laundry shop owner who has many problems in life. While meeting with tax officer Deirdre Beaubeirdre (Jamie Lee Curtis) to solve financial problems, Evelyn accidentally meets another version of her husband Waymond (Quan Ke Huy) from the Alpha universe.

He says she is the only version of Evelyn that can stop Jobu Topaki - the evil who wants to destroy the peace of the multiverse. Evelyn must learn to travel between worlds , using all the skills that the other versions have to fight evil.

It can be said that "Everything Everywhere All at Once" is not the best movie. However, everyone must admit that the winning movie has a reason when it touches on the common fear of everyone on earth: extinction. Therefore, the movie easily finds sympathy and love from the majority of audiences, including members of the Academy - the judges of the 95th Oscar.

The film surprised everyone with its multiverse content. The events in the film take place in many worlds, where all the rules are broken. Evelyn's role in different universes is explained by the filmmakers with the butterfly effect. The special effects in the scenes where Evelyn jumps into the multiverse worlds are magnificently designed by the design team.

The film combines many humorous elements, action scenes and multi-layered emotions. There is a scene that reminds viewers of the animated film "Ratatouille" (2007) but instead of the mouse Emy is a raccoon sitting on the chef's head. The work stars a Malaysian action movie star, so the martial arts scenes are staged with a strong Asian style.

The Washington Blade commented: "The film exploits the multiverse as a device to activate the audience's imagination." The film earned $52.26 million after 2 months of showing in the US, making it A24's highest-grossing box office work.

Asian Dream

Malaysian-born actress Michelle Yeoh fulfilled her Oscar dream at the age of 60. Michelle Yeoh's acting talent is undeniable and she is also the youth of many generations of Hong Kong (China) action movie audiences. March 13, 2023 must be an important milestone in her life that cannot be forgotten.

Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian actress to win the Best Actress award at the Oscars. This result was within the audience's predictions. On stage to receive the award, Michelle Yeoh was emotional: "Thank you. Thank you to those who follow me. I dedicate this award to my mother, to all mothers in the world - heroes. Without mothers, there are no heroes. My mother is 84 years old, I will bring the award back to Malaysia to celebrate with my family."

The Best Supporting Actor award also went to Asian actor Quan Ke-Hui for his role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once". Winning the 2023 Oscar, Quan Ke-Hui set a record as the first Asian actor to win three of Hollywood's biggest film awards: the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). On the Oscar stage, Quan Ke-Hui said: "My mom is at home watching the Oscars. Mom, I won an Oscar! Thank you so much for this opportunity of a lifetime."

Born in 1971, Quan Ke Huy started his career in Hollywood at the age of 13 with the role of Short Round in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". After that, the actor had 3 decades of ups and downs, had to retire to work behind the scenes before being invited back by A24 in the project "Everything Everywhere All at Once".

In an interview with The New York Times reporter, Quan Ke Huy said emotionally: "I received a call about this wonderful project with Michelle Yeoh. I never thought I would be acting with my idol. I have been her fan for many years."

Following Michelle Yeoh's achievement, the 2023 Oscars also witnessed a first in history when honoring the song "Naatu Naatu" from the movie "RRR" in the Best Original Song category. This is the first time an Indian song has been nominated and won in this category. The MV on YouTube has also attracted 125 million views.

Sweet fruit for Brendan Fraser

With an appearance of nearly 300 kg, the once beautiful lines on the face of the superstar of the "Mummy" series Brendan Fraser were almost destroyed. But this role of Brendan Fraser in "The Whale" helped him win the Best Actor award at the 95th Academy Awards - 2023.

Brendan seems to be reborn in his own life and career after a long period of being covered by darkness. Once a bright face of the Hollywood film industry, but since 2003 when he was at his peak, Brendan suddenly encountered a series of misfortunes that caused him to lose everything - from his brilliant film career to his family home. And now he is back.
