Dolly Parton released the single on August 18 ahead of the release of her album Rockstar in November. Paul McCartney sings and plays piano while Ringo Starr plays drums on the record.

Dolly Parton said two other music stars also contributed to the song Let It Be . Peter Frampton played guitar and Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood played percussion.
The Rockstar album was inspired by Dolly Parton's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year. It features nine original songs and 21 covers with an all-star roster of collaborators, including Elton John, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, Chris Stapleton, and more.
