(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Over the years, the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat Team has constantly innovated and improved the quality of selection and training of young athletes to best prepare for major tournaments, especially towards the 33rd SEA Games.

Pencak silat Thanh Hoa rejuvenates, towards SEA Games 33 Thanh Hoa pencak silat athletes actively practice at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi.

In 2024, at the National Pencak Silat Championship, the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team won first place overall with 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. This is the third consecutive time that the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team has firmly held the number one position nationwide.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Head Coach of the Vietnam Pencak Silat Team, who is also the Head Coach of the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat Team, said: "In domestic tournaments, Thanh Hoa pencak silat still maintains the number 1 position nationwide, however, for the athletes of the Thanh Hoa delegation to achieve the goal of winning a high ranking at the SEA Games is still not a simple task. The coaching staff determined not to depend on veteran athletes forever, the Thanh Hoa pencak silat team aims for specific goals for each tournament, focusing on training the next generation for the long term. Especially creating a young generation capable of competing for medals in important arenas such as the SEA Games, Asia, and the world".

With such a direction, the coaches of the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team have not been afraid of difficulties, traveling to districts, towns and cities in the province to search for and select new factors for the sport. Special attention has been paid to the training of young athletes with focused investment, strengthening and improving the conditions of facilities. The coaching team continues to be standardized, improving professional qualifications, and at the same time, there are reasonable adjustments and arrangements to maximize the effectiveness and quality of training. In 2024, the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team will select 15 more young and promising athletes.

Currently, the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team has 6 coaches, 19 provincial athletes, 16 youth athletes, and 15 gifted athletes. The youngest athlete on the team was born in 2015.

In the national team, Thanh Hoa has 6 outstanding, young faces including: Le Thi Van Anh (born 2000, 60kg female), Luong Thi Van (born 2005, 50kg female), Vu Thi Tuyet (born 2005, 45kg female), Le Ngoc Vu (born 2003, over 110kg), Cao Van Quy (born 2007, 85kg), Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang (born 2007, 65kg female). These are not only martial artists who have affirmed their class, continuously winning gold medals at national tournaments in recent years, but also new, promising faces.

In the national youth team, Thanh Hoa also contributed 3 promising faces: Nguyen Thi Nga (born 2007, 60kg weight class), Duong Thi Hai Quyen (born 2007, 54kg weight class), Ho Thi Le Lan (born 2008, 57kg weight class). They are all the next generation of young athletes, receiving investment for the future of the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team.

At the 2024 National Youth Pencak Silat Championship, Thanh Hoa team's fighters made remarkable progress in their expertise and performance in the tournament when they participated in 13 final matches in the age groups of the tournament. As a result, Thanh Hoa team won 9 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals.

This impressive achievement is the result of careful preparation, high determination and continuous efforts of the athletes. In particular, focusing on the selection and training of talented and young athletes to supplement the quality and depth of the athlete force plays a particularly important role.

Coach of the Pencak Silat Thanh Hoa team, Nguyen Thanh Thuy, said: “The athletes have shown remarkable maturity and progress in national youth tournaments in recent years. This has affirmed the quality of the selection and training of young athletes in the Pencak Silat Thanh Hoa sport. The most typical young athletes today are the backbone of the province's sports for the upcoming major competitions, with the goal of continuing to make breakthroughs in rankings in national and international arenas. We have been thorough, from athlete selection to building a competition strategy, creating a strong mentality when entering the competition. From the beginning of 2025, the Pencak Silat team has focused on physical training. This is an important factor to gain an advantage in confrontational disputes and limit injuries when athletes enter professional training. After physical training, the coaching staff continues to train tactics, techniques, and competition rules."

In the near future, the Thanh Hoa Pencak Silat team will participate in a number of major tournaments such as: National Championship (April), National Youth Championship (July 2025), Asian Championship (August), National Pencak Silat Club Championship (October). The results of the athletes in this tournament will be the basis for experts to select young and talented faces to supplement the national team, national youth team to participate in regional and international pencak silat tournaments.

Head of the Training Management Department, Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center Nguyen Ngoc Hai, said: “Pencak silat Thanh Hoa has been heavily invested in training talented athletes and young athletes. This is an important stage to build and consolidate the young athlete force for the future, especially in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, the 10th National Sports Festival - 2026. In addition to constantly improving and standardizing the coaching team, pencak silat has been flexible in training, creating conditions for the children to participate in training and compete in youth tournaments. Thereby, the coaching board screens the force, discovers talented athletes, to invest in key and strategic areas for the following years”.
