After a difficult season, manager Pep Guardiola said he would take a break after leaving Man City. And he also hinted that he would leave Man City when his contract with the club ends in 2027.
* What are your plans for the future?
- I will take a break after leaving Man City, but how long I don't know. I'm not saying I'll leave now or at the end of the season. But if they sack me, that will happen. I won't retire, but I will definitely take a break. I need a break, that's all!
* How do you want your fans to remember you?
- I want them to remember me the way they want. We all want to win so we can have a memorable job. But I think the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Man City like to see how my team plays on the pitch.
I don't think we should live our lives thinking about whether people will remember us or not. This is a fact because when we die we will be forgotten. In coaching there are always good and bad people. The important thing is that the good people are remembered longer. For me, the most important thing is not what people think of me but what I have done during my career.
* How do you feel about this season?
- People think we learn more from defeats than from wins. This season has been difficult for Man City, including some bad decisions from me. So this is a year, I learned a lot from defeats.
Although we knew there would be times when the team would fail, we didn’t expect so many failures this season. So now the whole team has to sit down and try to understand what we need to learn to improve in the future.
* Did you create a school in the style of legends like Johan Cruyff or Helenio Herrera?
- People say that I have a school of thought, but I don't think so. On the contrary, I have many styles. Although the Dutch school of football has influenced me the most, I have also absorbed many other schools. For example, there is the German school with gegenpressing, a counterpressing style of play famous for its extremely fast attacks.
However, the Barcelona school is what I absorbed the most. This is where I was born in the football world . It is where Johan Cruyff introduced many ideas that were very important to me. I even tried to apply them in Germany and also in England. So I don't have just one school, but many. Also, I try to adapt to my players.
* Do you have much influence on other people?
- I can't speak for others. We live in a more direct and physical football era now, with braver teams. Before, the weaker teams just played defensively, but that's not the case anymore. All teams play a fast and direct game of football. There will always be teams that understand that having the ball is the most important thing. But there are also other teams that think it's not so important. And I think that's great because football would be terrible if everyone played the same!
