Petrovietnam continues to affirm its mettle and intelligence as a pillar of the economy in the new period.

On September 21, in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group (Petrovietnam) held a ceremony to receive the First Class Labor Medal and celebrate the 50th anniversary of its establishment (September 3, 1975 - September 3, 2025). General Secretary To Lam attended and delivered a speech.

Attending the ceremony were Politburo members: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Secretary of the Government Party Committee; Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Phan Dinh Trac, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission; Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission; Nguyen Hoa Binh , Permanent Deputy Prime Minister; General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee.

Also attending were Party Central Committee members, former Party Central Committee members, leaders of the National Assembly, Government, central and local ministries and branches, and many generations of leaders and workers of the oil and gas industry through the periods.

The anniversary is an occasion to look back on Petrovietnam's 50-year journey of construction and development, full of difficulties, challenges, but also great pride; affirm the achievements and important contributions to the country's development; and at the same time establish the mission and vision for the new development period with great goals and aspirations for a strong Vietnam in the new era.

Delivering the commemorative speech, comrade Le Manh Hung, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Members of the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group expressed: In a solemn atmosphere, with infinite gratitude, we respectfully commemorate the great President Ho Chi Minh, the genius leader of our nation, who laid the foundation for the birth and development of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry, now the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group.

Over the past 50 years, under the leadership of the Party and the State, Petrovietnam has achieved many great achievements, being the driving force, spreading and making important contributions to building and defending the Fatherland. Petrovietnam has built a complete, synchronous and modern oil and gas industry with a strategic and backbone energy infrastructure system; put into operation many key national projects at home and abroad such as: Bach Ho, Bien Dong, Cuu Long; Phu My Gas, Electricity and Fertilizer Plant, Ca Mau; Dung Quat Oil Refinery, Nghi Son, Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant... in foreign countries such as Russia, Algeria; mastered most of the core technologies in the oil and gas value chain at the world level...

Up to now, Petrovietnam has well fulfilled its mission of making an important contribution to ensuring 5 security: energy security, economic security, national defense security, food security and social security; is the unit with the highest budget contribution, accounting for 80.3% of the total budget payment of 18 corporations and general companies in the state-owned enterprise sector; has won many noble awards in science and technology; is very active in social security activities...

The Group has been successful in restructuring and shifting to a sustainable business model, increasing the proportion of technology, deep processing, high value and export, and effectively responding to fluctuations in the business environment.

Entering a new era, Petrovietnam is determined to realize the strategic goals set in the Resolution of the 4th Party Congress, striving to be one of the 500 largest enterprises in the world by 2030, developing strongly and sustainably; innovating and modernizing the synchronous management system; focusing on developing science, technology, innovation, especially 10 strategic technologies, 32 key products; developing national eco-energy industry centers; strengthening international cooperation, investment, export and business, striving for international revenue to account for 30%... Vision to 2050, Petrovietnam becomes an integrated, green-digital-smart Industry-Energy Group, among the leading corporations in the region, with a global position.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam acknowledged that over the past 50 years, Petrovietnam has made great contributions, significantly contributing to stabilizing the macro-economy, ensuring national energy security; even contributing to maintaining the lifeblood of society, protecting the security of the regime in difficult times, in the face of world political fluctuations.

The General Secretary emphasized that the world is placing urgent demands on each country to ensure energy security, economic security and national defense security. The Central Committee and the Politburo have issued many new, breakthrough and strategic policies and orientations to realize three very important goals: Maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; developing the economy rapidly and sustainably; and improving people's lives. These policies are important strategic orientations for national development in the coming period that each level, sector and organization from the Central to local levels need to concretize, thoroughly grasp and implement. Petrovietnam is also responsible for implementing Conclusion No. 76-KL/TW dated April 24, 2024 of the Politburo on strategic orientations for the development of Vietnam's oil and gas industry to 2025 and vision to 2035 and some orientations for the new period. This is the guiding principle for Petrovietnam to shift from "resource exploitation" to "energy-industry-knowledge creation".

Affirming the Party and State's expectations for Petrovietnam, the General Secretary requested the group to focus on the top priority task of firmly ensuring national energy security, with a "3-layer" architecture: stable traditional sources, flexible sources (LNG, storage, etc.) and new sources (wind power, nuclear power, etc.); proactively building strategic reserve capacity, regulating and providing flexible dispatching associated with energy security, national defense security and economic independence and autonomy.

At the same time, the General Secretary requested the Group to focus on developing industry and technical services as pillars; perfecting and expanding integrated refinery-petrochemical-chemical complexes; developing mechanical engineering for drilling rigs, energy equipment, new materials, increasing the localization rate in the supply chain; promoting high-tech services to gradually turn Petrovietnam into a leading industrial-technical contractor in the region.

The General Secretary suggested that Petrovietnam should devote sufficient resources to research and development activities to create new products and services, especially in key areas; accelerate the application of digital technology, artificial intelligence, and big data. Along with that, constantly innovate governance, perfect the corporate governance model according to international practices to improve efficiency and safety; strengthen enforcement discipline, prevent loss and waste. Petrovietnam must proactively integrate internationally and promote the strength of economic components to connect common development; participate deeply in the international energy and industrial value chain; make the Petrovietnam brand become the "economic-industrial ambassador" of Vietnam.

Highly appreciating the initiative of the program "STEM Education and Practice Room" and the fact that Petrovietnam has deployed STEM classrooms in many localities, the General Secretary affirmed that this is a model for nurturing science and technology human resources for the future and requested the Ministry of Education and Training, provincial and municipal Party Committees and Vietnam Television to closely coordinate with the group to effectively organize and deploy, connect the program systematically, summarize, evaluate, draw lessons and further replicate the model.

On this occasion, the General Secretary gave Petrovietnam 8 words: "Pioneer-Outstanding-Sustainable-Global".

Pioneering in leading the cause of industrialization, modernization and energy transition, digital and green transformation, enhancing integration, affirming Vietnam's mettle and intelligence. Outstanding in efficiency, competitiveness and innovation, becoming a typical model of state-owned enterprises. Sustainable in vision and action, harmonious development between economic growth, environmental protection, social security and national responsibility. Globally, in aspiration and strength, reaching out to the ocean, positioning Vietnam in the international arena, confidently among the ranks of the world's leading enterprises.

Affirming his belief that Petrovietnam, with its mettle, intelligence, professionalism, loyalty and aspiration to rise, will continue to be a pillar of the economy, a "national enterprise" for the national interest, the General Secretary requested the National Assembly Party Committee to direct the National Assembly to perfect the legal system, create a legal corridor for a competitive energy market and promote the efficiency of State-owned enterprises.

The Government Party Committee directed the Government to concretize the Politburo's policies in the Petrovietnam's Charter of Operations; continue to strongly implement decentralization and delegation of power; build specific mechanisms for strategic energy projects; and assign tasks and provide orientation for economic sectors to develop.

Ministries, branches and localities coordinate, guide and create an open business environment, remove bottlenecks and bottlenecks to serve development; carry out spatial and infrastructure planning; and at the same time create a national ecological energy industrial center.

In recognition of its important contributions to the country, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam awarded the First Class Labor Medal to the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group (Petrovietnam).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh awarded the First Class Labor Medal to Comrade Le Manh Hung, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Members of Petrovietnam; Second Class Labor Medal to Comrade Le Ngoc Son, General Director of Petrovietnam; Le Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam; and Third Class Labor Medal to Comrades Tran Quang Dung, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Petrovietnam; Le Xuan Huyen, Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam; Phan Tu Giang, Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam; Vu Dao Minh, Head of the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Department.

General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group performed the launching ceremony of the STEM Innovation Petrovietnam program, building STEM classrooms applying digital technology, gradually upgrading the educational infrastructure system, connecting schools, localities and internationally. From now until the end of 2025, the program will deploy 3 typical STEM classrooms in each province, connecting with each other, connecting between localities, connecting with Singapore's educational and training facilities.

* Within the framework of the Anniversary Ceremony, Petrovietnam opened the Science and Technology Exhibition displaying outstanding scientific and technological achievements in the past 50 years. The exhibits displayed and introduced at the exhibition are representative of achievements and contributions in science and technology, affirming the core competencies of Petrovietnam in the process of national development; demonstrating the stature, scale and fields of operation, not only in the traditional oil and gas sector, but also leading and leading many industries, industrial fields, services, new forms of energy, especially the field of offshore wind power... The exhibition took place over 2 days, September 21-22.
