The current generation of the 308 debuted in 2021, marking a new step forward in Peugeot's design language. After four years, the mid-life upgrade changed the front design, removing the familiar "claws" detail. Instead, there are separate light clusters, including a claw-shaped LED daytime running strip located above and the main headlights placed in a cavity in the glossy black front bumper. The standard Allure version uses full LED lights while the GT and GT Premium versions are equipped with Matrix LED technology with sequential turn signals.
Instead of adding LED strips that extend across the entire width as is the current trend in the world of automobiles, Peugeot chose to place light strings on the radiator grille painted in the same color as the car body. Another highlight is the glowing logo that first appeared on a Peugeot car and may be applied to the company's future car models. According to the French brand, new air intakes in the front bumper help improve aerodynamics, directing air flow towards the wheel wells. The body area of the Peugeot 308 2026 remains almost the same but comes with new 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. In addition, there is a new Lagoa Blue paint color for the hatchback and Ingaro Blue for the wagon. Unfortunately, the rear of the car has not changed much, only the chrome trim on the rear bumper has been removed. The claw-shaped LED taillights are now available on all versions. Previously, this cluster was only available on the GT version. Inside, the Peugeot 308 2026 does not use the new digital cockpit like the 3008 and 5008. Instead, it has a separate i-Cockpit digital dashboard with a 10-inch screen that is still quite modern and has new 3D graphics. The GT and GT Premium versions are equipped with sportier Alcantara seats.
Peugeot says it has used 31% recycled and renewable materials for the new 308, which weighs an average of 405kg per car. A 10-speaker Focal sound system, eight-colour ambient lighting, massage seats and over-the-air software updates are optional. In the SW wagon version, the Peugeot 308 2026 has a longer body and a larger trunk with a standard capacity of 598 liters or 1,487 liters if the rear seats are folded. The SW version also has 40:20:40 folding rear seats and an electric tailgate. Despite the market moving away from diesel engines, Peugeot's parent company Stellantis still retains the option of a 1.5 BlueHDi 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine, producing a maximum capacity of 129 horsepower, and an 8-speed automatic transmission on the new 308. In addition, the car also has a mild hybrid version using a 1.2L, turbocharged, 3-cylinder gasoline engine, with a maximum capacity of 143 horsepower, combined with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (e-DSC6) integrated with an electric motor, which can run up to 50% of the time in urban areas on battery power.
Next up is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, which uses a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, for a total output of 192 horsepower. The engine is paired with an e-DCS7 dual-clutch automatic transmission and a 17.2 kWh battery, for a pure electric range of 85 km. Finally, the 2026 Peugeot E-308 with a 154-horsepower front-mounted electric motor and a 58.4 kWh battery. The pure electric version of the 308 can reach a range of 452 km, an increase of 37 km compared to before thanks to improved battery and powertrain performance. Charging time from 20% to 80% using a 100 kW DC fast charger is 32 minutes. The car also supports the V2L feature that allows the Peugeot E-308 2026 to be turned into a mobile charger. The upgraded Peugeot 308 will go on sale in Europe and the UK from autumn this year with prices to be announced later. Its rivals include the Volkswagen Golf, Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic.
