After more than 40 years, author Tesuko Kuroyanagi finally realized that millions of readers still yearn to know what the rest of her life – also the life of the little girl in “Totto-chan – The Little Girl at the Window” – will be like. The author, who is now 90 years old, said: “I finally thought that if so many people wanted to know about the rest of my life, why not try writing it.”

Part 2 of the book follows Totto-chan as she is evacuated to Aomori Prefecture in the north after the atomic bombing of Tokyo in 1945. There, she graduates from music school and becomes an NHK artist, before flying to New York to study.

“Totto-chan – The Little Girl at the Window” is the most famous Japanese children’s literature book in the world . The book tells the story of the naughty girl Tottochan and her lovely school, along with the wonderful things that the teachers gave her at that school. In Japan, not long after its first release in 1981, “Totto-chan – The Little Girl at the Window” became one of the best-selling books.

The book tells the story of author Tesuko Kuroyanagi's childhood years at Tomoe Gakuen, a small school in Tokyo known for its unconventional and inspiringeducational methods. It was the years studying at this school that helped shape the character and personality of the little girl Tottochan at that time.

The book has been translated into 20 languages, sold 8 million copies in Japan, more than 25 million copies worldwide, and become one of the most famous and beloved children's books for generations.

The story of Totto-chan and Tomoe school has also been brought to the stage in many countries, including Vietnam.

Author Tesuko Kuroyanagi has also become one of the most famous people in Japan. She has also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 1984.

Like the first book, the sequel to “Totto-chan – The Little Girl at the Window” also uses illustrations by the late artist Chihiro Iwasaki.

In Vietnam, “Totto-chan – The Little Girl at the Window” has been published by many publishers and continues to be reprinted. The book has also been associated with the childhood of many generations of Vietnamese people.

The first translation of the book was published in Vietnam in 1989, under the name Tottochan – The Little Girl Sitting by the Window. This version was translated from English, with the permission of UNICEF, where the author had donated the copyright of the book.
