On May 26, a leader of the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City ( Dak Lak ) announced that he had issued a decision to administratively fine teacher NTX (Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School, Tan An Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City) 3.75 million VND for physically abusing a student.
In addition to the penalty, the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City also required Ms. X. to publicly apologize to TGVT (the student who was slapped by Ms. X.), except in the case where student T. or his parents request not to publicly apologize.
Teacher fined 3.75 million VND for slapping student during test in Dak Lak
Previously, on May 9, Ms. X. was assigned to supervise a final exam for grade 8 at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School. While supervising the class, Ms. X. discovered that student T. was putting his hand into his pocket, possibly to take documents. Immediately after, Ms. X. walked up and slapped the male student twice in the face.
The image of Ms. X. slapping student T. was recorded by the classroom's surveillance camera.
After receiving feedback from T.'s parents, the school investigated and asked Ms. X. to apologize to T. and her family. However, Ms. X. did not admit to beating the student. It was only when the school extracted the classroom camera, which recorded Ms. X. approaching and slapping T., that the teacher admitted her actions.
Speaking over the phone, T.'s parents said they would not ask Ms. X. to publicly apologize to the family. However, because Ms. X. had beaten students many times, the family hoped the school would take appropriate measures to ensure the rights of the students studying at the school.
The leaders of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School confirmed that in the past, some parents had reported that Ms. X. had beaten students, but the school had tried to persuade them and apologized, so they all ignored it.
