More than 30,000 fake golf balls of Titleist, Callaway, Honma brands discovered

On September 24, information from the General Department of Market Management (GDM) said that on August 13, the inspection team of GDM Team No. 2, Yen Bai Provincial Market Management Department coordinated with Yen Bai Provincial Police to conduct a surprise inspection of a golf ball production and trading facility in Yen Bai City.

At the time of inspection, the inspection team discovered that the facility was stamping and printing over 9,100 golf balls of brands such as: Titleist Pro V1, Pro V1, Callaway, Honma, Volvik.

In addition to the balls that have been embossed with famous brands, the inspection team also recorded 23,700 golf balls of various colors at the facility, ready to be branded. In addition, the inspection team also recorded many machines and equipment serving the printing and embossing of golf ball brands.

At the time of inspection, the owner of the facility could not present invoices or documents proving the legal origin of the goods. Market Management Team No. 2 temporarily detained and sealed all of the above goods, and at the same time, contacted the industrial property representatives of the brands to determine whether the goods were genuine or counterfeit.

Accordingly, the industrial property representative of the trademarks confirmed that 9,112 golf balls of various types were counterfeit. The authorities determined that the shipment with signs of infringement was worth nearly VND900 million. Of which, the shipment with signs of counterfeiting trademarks protected in Vietnam was determined to be worth more than VND413 million; the shipment of unknown origin was worth more than VND281 million.

Market Management Team No. 2 has requested the Investigation Police Department, Yen Bai Provincial Police to receive the case file, related documents and all administrative violation evidence to continue investigating and clarifying.
