On April 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Drug Testing Institute said that after receiving feedback from people, the unit purchased a number of health food samples for testing and discovered the presence of banned substances.
Hamer candies were tested by the Ho Chi Minh City Drug Testing Institute for containing banned substances.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Drug Testing Institute, through 6 Hamer candy products randomly purchased on the market, including directly purchased at a store on Hung Vuong Street, District 5 and purchased through an e-commerce site, it was discovered that all 6 samples contained banned substances. Specifically:
The 4 brands include Hamer 37F82K lozenges; Hamer G28Q79 lozenges; Hamer E854A9 lozenges; Hamer GINSENG & COFFEE lozenges). All 4 samples above contain tadalafil with a content of 92.63 mg - 266.94 mg/1 tablet.
1 Hamer 37F82K lozenge contains sildenafil citrate with a content of 17.77 mg - 34.56 mg/1 tablet and 1 Hamer 621 lozenge contains nortadalafil.
In the pharmaceutical field, there are 3 active ingredients sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil which are PDE5 enzyme inhibitors used as supportive drugs and to treat erectile dysfunction in men. In the health food field, these 3 active ingredients and similar substances (sildenafil analogues) are prohibited from use in the production and trading of health food according to the provisions of Circular 10/2021/TT-BYT dated June 30, 2021 of the Ministry of Health .
The Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Drug Control noted that sildenafil and tadalafil should only be used in treatment when prescribed by a doctor. The maximum recommended dose of tadalafil in the drug is 20 mg/day. Thus, the amount of tadalafil detected in the Hamer candy sample mentioned above is about 5-15 times higher than the maximum prescribed dose. "Incorrect use of tadalafil will cause cardiovascular complications for users including myocardial infarction, sudden death due to heart disease, unstable angina, etc. and should not be used for some cardiovascular patients. Meanwhile, nortadalafil is a substance with a similar structure to tadalafil (analogues) but is not currently used as a drug and has not been evaluated for safety when used" - the Institute of Drug Control emphasized.
Previously, since the end of 2019, the Food Safety Department has informed that 7 types of products that Singapore's health agency has issued warnings about containing banned substances have not been granted registration numbers by the Department, including Hamer candy. However, this product is still widely sold on the market until now.
