That is the case of Ms. NTH, 38 years old, living in Hanoi , who went to the hospital for a routine health check-up. Ms. H. said that she sometimes had pain in both calves, had a habit of eating raw vegetables and was often in contact with cats and dogs.

The test for worms showed positive results for roundworms, roundworms, strongyloidiasis, dog and cat roundworms, large liver flukes and small liver flukes. The patient was diagnosed with liver, spleen and lung damage, and was monitored for parasites. The patient was then consulted and treated as an outpatient at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases to avoid possible complications.

Patient H. was shocked when he discovered he had parasites due to his habit of eating raw vegetables and frequent contact with cats and dogs.

To prevent the disease, Dr. Vu Minh Dien - Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases recommends that people should not eat raw aquatic vegetables such as: water spinach, Vietnamese coriander, water celery, watercress, water spinach... and should not drink raw water. When suspecting infection, people must go to a medical facility (specialized) for timely diagnosis and treatment. People who have the habit of eating aquatic vegetables (swamps, ponds, lakes...), eating them raw or not properly processed, should also go for examination and screening for the disease.

According to the Central Institute of Malaria - Parasitology - Entomology, to prevent worm infection and ensure food safety, people need to eat cooked food, not raw food; keep the surrounding environment clean; wash hands properly, wash hands with soap before eating and after going to the toilet. For pet owners, it is necessary to deworm pets and especially manage their feces well, because this is a source of roundworm eggs. If hygiene is not clean, the owner is very susceptible to worm eggs.

The habit of eating raw food is also one of the causes of parasitic diseases.

In addition, to avoid getting worms from daily eating and living habits, health experts recommend that people limit eating on the sidewalk and street vendors; do not eat salads, vegetables, fish, rare meat, sour meat of unknown origin; maintain personal hygiene, trim fingernails neatly, do not let children get into the habit of sucking their fingers, and wash hands thoroughly before eating.

People should wash their hands after playing with pets in the house, or after being exposed to places at risk of infection; clean thoroughly, immediately remove pet feces to prevent eggs from infected animals; clean in the right place, do not use fresh manure to fertilize vegetables, should fertilize plants when the manure has been composted.
