Throughout history, Dak Lak province is a convergence of 49/54 ethnic groups in the Vietnamese ethnic community. In addition to the unique cultural features of the ethnic groups in the Truong Son - Tay Nguyen region, there is also the cultural presence of the Northern ethnic minorities and the Kinh ethnic group with all the nuances of the three regions of North - Central - South. All three cultural streams intersect, intertwine, and enrich each other, increasingly developing to create a unified and diverse Dak Lak culture.
Dak Lak has a unique, extremely rich and diverse traditional culture with the epic poems Dam San, Xinh Nha...; traditional craft products: brocade weaving, weaving, sculpture...; special festivals and unique customs; the resounding sounds of gongs, lithophones, musical instruments made from materials of the mountains and forests; songs and dances of the community of 49 ethnic groups. In particular, the Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space was honored by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005. Dak Lak is also a place that preserves many unique features of folk cultural values, customs and practices of the community of ethnic groups living together, with ancient architectural relics recording the mark of history and revolutionary movements of the previous generation. Many scenic and historical cultural relics have been recognized as national relics, distributed evenly throughout the province... That is the precious capital and vitality of Dak Lak, the foundation for development not only in the past but also in the present and future.
In recent years, thoroughly implementing the Party's viewpoint on "Comprehensive human development and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity so that culture truly becomes an endogenous strength, a driving force for national development and national defense", Party committees and authorities at all levels in the province have concretized it into policies, resolutions, plans and specific action programs. In particular, the work of preserving and promoting traditional cultural and historical values has been given attention and shaped in each step of development. Through patriotic emulation movements, revolutionary actions, etc., agencies, departments, branches and organizations in the province have focused on promoting propaganda and education to help cadres, party members and people of all walks of life improve their political and ideological awareness, preserve and practice moral qualities and lifestyles; promote cultural values, the strength of the Vietnamese people and the strength of great national unity, ensuring a harmonious connection between economic development and culture and society; Preserve and promote the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in association with tourism development. The context of international integration today poses many opportunities and challenges in preserving and protecting traditional values, selectively absorbing human values to supplement traditional values, serving the development process. Implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress on culture in general, on preserving national cultural identity in particular, the Resolution of the 17th Dak Lak Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, emphasized the task of "Preserving and promoting national cultural identity, caring for the material and spiritual life of the people, especially ethnic minorities... properly handling the relationship between preserving and promoting cultural values, national traditional history in human development and socio- economic development".
Building and promoting cultural values and human strength of Dak Lak is an important, regular and continuous task of the entire Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the province, placed in a closely linked relationship with the tasks of building and rectifying the Party and the political system, developing the economy - society, ensuring national defense, security, cooperation and international integration. It is necessary to effectively and reasonably use natural resources and State resources in combination with maximally mobilizing social resources to increase investment in cultural and human development in accordance with strategic orientations, development plans of the country, the region and the province, ensuring development based on three pillars: Environment - society - economy; at the same time preserving cultural heritage values, human values, orienting the selection of economic activities in accordance with the typical fundamental factors of the locality: Ecology of Land - Water - Forest, cultural identity of the Central Highlands.
Development policies on culture, historical traditions, human values, etc. have been and are extremely valuable knowledge resources and provisions, creating endogenous resources and breakthrough motivation to realize the aspiration and vision for the development of Dak Lak province into a rich, civilized and unique one; truly the center of the Central Highlands. By 2050, Dak Lak strives to become a province with ecological space, identity, creative connections, a favorite and livable destination.
