Promoting the role of prestigious people in economic development

In the ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Quang Ngai, many localities have been making strong changes in economic development and poverty reduction. Contributing to that change, there is a team of prestigious people who are both the bridge between the government and the people and pioneers in renewing thinking, ways of thinking, and ways of doing things to escape poverty and become rich legitimately.

Promote the role of prestigious people in economic development.

Re Village, Son Ky Commune used to be a difficult area, with a poverty rate of about 80% in 2010. People mainly engaged in small-scale agriculture with low income. To help people develop the economy, Mr. Dinh Van Tro pioneered and led the way in planting forests, raising cows for breeding, increasing family income, and then sharing his experience for people to follow.

“I also read the policies in the newspapers and on TV, then I tell them about the ways of doing business and living in the village. If you want to be rich and escape poverty, don’t let the villagers be jealous of each other. People should unite with each other, in the village, in the hamlet, and save money,” Mr. Tro said.

Mr. Dinh Lo is a typical example of household economic development in Trung Thuong village, Son Mai commune. He proactively learned farming and livestock raising techniques, then shared them with the people in the commune. According to him, a prestigious person must know how to do it first and do it well, then people will believe and listen. When people trust, the dissemination of policies and guidelines will be easier.

"As a person of prestige, I must be exemplary in my actions. My way of speaking and acting must always be correct and consistent with the development of my homeland, so that people will trust and follow me. When I say something, people will follow it," said Mr. Lo.

Prestigious people are those who understand the customs and practices of the community where they live, always strive to improve, pioneer in economic development, learn many good models, know how to convey policies and guidelines to the people in a familiar and easy-to-understand language. Combining traditional production experience with the application of scientific and technical knowledge, helps to form economic models suitable to the conditions of each locality.

They are the ones who have risen up to escape poverty sustainably in ethnic minority areas. They have a way to guide the community and their descendants. How to apply science and technology as well as choose breeds and livestock suitable for the soil, climate, and customs of their people,” said Ms. Nhung.

Prestigious people in ethnic minority areas are exemplary, responsible and understanding people. They play an important role in changing the way of thinking and working of people in remote areas. Through propaganda, guidance and mutual support in economic development, prestigious people contribute to creating a clear change in life in mountainous areas. They are the core force contributing to the effective implementation of ethnic policies and promoting local economic development.
