In recent times, the industry and trade sector has continuously invested in developing the province’s trade infrastructure and e-commerce infrastructure. This has contributed to expanding the distribution network, diversifying business lines and creating conditions for consumers to choose their shopping methods.
Developed commercial infrastructure
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, from 2023 to present, despite the impact of the world economic situation, the province's trade and service activities continued to recover and develop strongly, the goods distribution network continued to be strengthened and expanded in quantity and diversified in business lines, creating favorable conditions for consumers to choose the form of shopping, contributing to promoting the demand for goods and services.
Accordingly, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2023 reached VND 58,410 billion, an increase of 1.23 times compared to 2018. Meanwhile, in the first 7 months of 2024, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached VND 40,600 billion, an increase of 14.2% over the same period in 2023. Up to now, the whole province has 115 markets including 1 class 1 market, 17 class 2 markets and 97 class 3 markets; 5 supermarkets, 2 shopping centers and 44 convenience stores.
Developing e-commerce infrastructure, currently putting into operation the e-commerce trading floor of the industry and trade sector and the Vinh Long agricultural products trading floor. In the period up to 2030, focus on implementing for Vinh Long City and Binh Minh Town markets, and town markets. Meanwhile, strive to have the proportion of goods distributed through electronic trade channels account for about 10.5-11% by 2030; the proportion of goods distributed through modern retail systems account for about 38-42%.
