In recent years, in addition to equipping students with necessary knowledge according to theeducational program, schools and education levels have paid attention to developing a reading culture for students by investing in building and operating a relatively effective open library system in schools. To develop a reading culture and create a reading habit for students, schools and education levels have proactively and flexibly organized library activities and reading movements in the direction of diversifying content and form.
In Duy Tien town, in the process of concentrating resources to invest in building school infrastructure for all levels, in recent years, the town has also paid attention to building an increasingly complete library system in schools. Thereby, actively contributing to maintaining the habit of reading and developing a reading culture among cadres, teachers and students. Currently, 100% of schools in the town have school libraries with a variety of types, such as green libraries, mobile libraries, classroom bookcases... creating conditions for reading anytime, anywhere, forming reading habits for students. At the same time, promoting the effectiveness of friendly library activities, encouraging students to raise their awareness of self-study, self-research and development of the Vietnamese language towards building a reading culture environment in schools and the community.
In order to achieve the goal of developing the reading movement among students, the work of building a school library at Tien Son B Primary School (Duy Tien town) has been carried out synchronously. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, Principal of the school, said: Up to now, the school has purchased, called for support, and mobilized socialization to have a large and rich quantity of books, newspapers, magazines, and educational pictures, diverse in types. Along with the interest in developing the school library, the school also promotes the development of classroom bookshelves and green libraries. Each class has a friendly bookshelf, mobilizing students to voluntarily contribute and exchange books, newspapers, and magazines. In the school yard, there is a "Green Library" bookshelf that meets the reading needs of students during recess. In the school library, basic books and documents serve the teaching and learning requirements of teachers and students well.
In the province, the activities of school libraries have become systematic and effective, contributing to creating a rich and attractive learning environment, the rate of students going to the library to read and borrow books is increasing. To maximize the value of the library system, schools also implement well the regulations on organizing a library reading period; effectively maintain activities such as: competitions, book festivals, exhibitions, book introductions, etc., making the reading movement a cultural beauty, a daily habit for staff, teachers and students. Moreover, because of clearly seeing the meaning and importance of reading, schools have launched a widespread reading movement among teachers and students and actively organized many activities and forms of mobilizing students to read, such as: issuing reading cards for students to read in the school library during recess, rotating books from the school library to the bookcases of classrooms and green libraries; Let students manage their own bookshelves, green libraries, storytelling and poetry reading competitions during group and class activities...
By paying attention to investment, calling for socialization, and implementing systematic book circulation activities, up to now, the libraries of most schools in the province have a relatively large volume of books, newspapers, and magazines with millions of titles of all kinds, such as: professional books, reference materials, textbooks and publications of newspapers, magazines, journals, etc., suitable and well meeting the reading needs of students.
Currently, from the rapid and strong development of technology and the requirements of digital transformation, the school library system of the province has also promptly grasped this need, with quite good investment in facilities, technological infrastructure and gradually developed and exploited the activities of electronic libraries (TVĐT). In many schools, the library facilities are built to meet the reading and research needs of students and teachers with enough reading rooms; each reading room has a TVĐT corner, equipped with computers connected to the internet. During weekly library activities, or in the afternoons every day, the number of students using computers to exploit information is quite high.
According to the assessment of teacher Nguyen Thi Vu Binh, Vice Principal of Thanh Tan Secondary School (Thanh Liem), the development of e-learning in schools is an inevitable trend to create opportunities to access documents and information resources, without being limited by space and time, helping schools have a richer and more diverse library source. E-learning has a positive impact on teaching and learning activities, especially for grades implementing the 2018 General Education Program. Students are accessing and learning open programs, open-ended question systems, and are encouraged to use materials other than textbooks, so exploiting more information and materials from the e-learning channel is very useful. Moreover, it helps to improve students' skills in the learning process.
During library reading hours, students are very interested in exploiting and reading information on the electronic library. Chu Minh Duong, a student at Ly Thuong Kiet High School (Kim Bang), said: To enhance knowledge and learning skills, in addition to reading and studying by myself through books and "hard" documents, I also spend a lot of time to learn and research the content of lessons through the "soft" document system from the school's electronic library. Through the exploitation and use, I found that the school's electronic library operates stably, has a good connection, and a rich document store, meeting my needs well.
With a correct understanding of the importance of the library system in the development of general education, schools in the province are quite flexible in directing the improvement of all aspects of the library quality, not allowing the library to exist as a necessary type, operating ineffectively. Despite many difficulties in terms of investment capital to expand the source of books and titles, schools have boldly implemented socialization, increased the circulation of books between school libraries and local cultural houses or between school libraries with each other, helping the library system in schools to gradually improve in terms of facilities, improve service quality, quality of activities, create favorable conditions for teachers and students to read books and maintain the habit of reading.
