With the newly approved planning, this airport will be a domestic airport, shared by civil and military use.

By 2050, Ca Mau airport will maintain its 4C airport status and level II military airport status, but its capacity will be increased to about 3 million passengers/year and 3,000 tons of cargo/year.

Regarding the runway system, in the period 2021 - 2030, this airport is planned to have a size of 2,400m x 45m, coinciding with the existing runway.

Regarding the passenger terminal, in the period 2021-2030, Ca Mau airport will expand the existing passenger terminal to accommodate a capacity of about 1 million passengers/year. By 2050, the planning of a new passenger terminal in the area north of the runway will be implemented, with a capacity of about 3 million passengers/year.

Previously, Vietnam Airports Corporation - ACV and the People's Committee of Ca Mau province agreed to upgrade and expand Ca Mau airport to ensure it can receive medium-range commercial aircraft such as A321/320/310 or Embraer 195, which is necessary.
