It will be an extremely unpredictable final between 8th seed Swiatek and 13th seed Anisimova, scheduled to take place at 10pm on July 12 (Vietnam time).
"Specialty" women's singles
In the men's singles, fans will be shocked if none of the top 4 seeds make it to the final.
But in the women's singles, it's a "specialty". Almost every Grand Slam tournament has a "dark horse" in the women's singles. Fans surely remember last year's Wimbledon final, which took place between No. 7 seed Paolini and No. 31 seed Krejcikova.
But after only 1 year, the two strongest players at Wimbledon last year could not get a ticket to the 4th round of this year's tournament.
This year’s Wimbledon was full of surprises from the start, with two top four players eliminated in the first round (Gauff and Pegula). Then another was eliminated in the second round (Paolini). In the semi-finals, current world number one Sabalenka was also defeated spectacularly by Anisimova (4-6, 6-4, 4-6).
Who is Anisimova?
Anisimova, 23, is famous for her exciting, aggressive style of play. Because of this style, it is difficult for the American girl to maintain a stable performance. Continuous injuries also caused her to almost disappear from the top tennis scene in 2023, before recovering from the beginning of 2024.
At Wimbledon this year, Anisimova's journey created countless emotions with 3/6 wins lasting over 3 sets. Her attacking style of play especially won the hearts of fans, especially after two consecutive Grand Slam titles went to American girls (Madison Keys and Coco Gauff) this year. And Anisimova promises to continue to become a new symbol of this tennis powerhouse.
However, the 13th seed is still considered a clear underdog compared to Iga Swiatek. Although only seeded 8th in the tournament, Swiatek is still considered one of the two best players of the current generation (along with Sabalenka).
The Polish girl owns 5 Grand Slam titles and is gradually recovering her position after a series of declines following the doping scandal last year.
Swiatek was seeded low at Wimbledon because grass courts have never been her strong point. But with her inherent class, experts always believed that the Polish tennis player would quickly overcome this problem. And indeed, at Wimbledon, Swiatek showed devastating form.
Unlike Anisimova, Swiatek dropped just one set en route to the final. In the semi-finals, she even destroyed Bencic 6-2, 6-0 - a scoreline that reflected almost nothing but sweat and no pressure.
Swiatek clearly has the physical advantage ahead of the final, especially given Anisimova's hours of intense competition with Sabalenka.
The strange thing is that these two girls have never met before. With one attacking and one defending, the match between Swiatek and Anisimova promises to be very interesting to watch.
With Anisimova, tennis was waiting for another strong female player to emerge. And with Swiatek, it was a revival after a long period of silence.
