Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee holds the position of Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee

Comrade Nguyen Van Hieu, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, was assigned, mobilized, and appointed by the Politburo to join the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

On the afternoon of May 27, in Can Tho city, Can Tho City Party Committee held a conference to announce the Politburo's decision on personnel work.

Attending the conference were comrades: Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Commission; Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Le Quang Manh, Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee of the 15th National Assembly, former Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee.

Comrade Nguyen Van Hieu, Alternate Member of the Central Executive Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, was assigned, mobilized, and appointed by the Politburo to join the Executive Committee, Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2020-2025.

Speaking at the conference, Standing member of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organizing Committee Truong Thi Mai highly appreciated the efforts of the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee, together with the city government, in leading and directing the city's people to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic, recover and develop the socio-economy, quickly develop the city's economy in 2022 and become the locality with the lowest poverty rate in the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.

Standing member of the Secretariat Truong Thi Mai also said that comrade Nguyen Van Hieu received basic training, experienced many working positions, and matured from the grassroots. During his work, no matter what position he held, he always made efforts, strived to improve himself, and made positive contributions to the locality, agency, and unit.

Standing member of the Secretariat Truong Thi Mai congratulated and believed that comrade Nguyen Van Hieu would take on the new responsibility of the Party, and would firmly continue the task of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, together with the Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, unite and strive to lead the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 14th City Party Congress, Resolution No. 59 of the Politburo on building and developing Can Tho city to 2030, with a vision to 2045, achieving the following goals: By 2030, Can Tho will be a civilized, modern ecological city, imbued with the cultural identity of the Mekong Delta river region.

Can Tho will be the center of the region in terms of trade services, tourism, logistics, processing industry, high-tech agriculture, education and training, specialized healthcare, science and technology, culture and sports; be the core urban area of the Mekong Delta; the material and spiritual life of the people will reach a high level; the Party organization and political system will be clean and strong; national defense and security will be firmly ensured....

Comrade Nguyen Van Hieu, born in 1976, from Binh Dinh, has a Master's degree in Educational Management, a Bachelor's degree in Law, a Bachelor's degree in Administration, and a Senior Degree in Political Theory. In January 2016, he was elected as an Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee.

Previously, he was Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, Secretary of District 2 Party Committee; Chairman of the City Party Committee's Inspection Committee and Secretary of District 5 Party Committee from July 2016 to January 2022.

From January 2022 to June 2022, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Secretary of the Thu Duc City Party Committee. In June 2022, he held the position of Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

From May 25, 2023, he joined the Executive Committee, Standing Committee of Can Tho City Party Committee and held the position of Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee.
