On the morning of May 16, comrade Nguyen Van De - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Command Board for urgent issues on forest protection and development, forest fire prevention and fighting in Nghe An province led a working delegation to inspect the situation of forest fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR) in the localities: Hoang Mai town, Quynh Luu district and Nghi Loc district.

During the inspection in Hoang Mai town, the working group visited the key forest area of Quynh Loc commune. According to the report of the town People's Committee, the locality currently has nearly 2,000 hectares of planted forests, mainly pine and eucalyptus - trees that are flammable in the hot season. In order to proactively prevent forest fires, the town has strengthened the Forest Fire Prevention and Control Steering Committee, established 72 forest fire prevention and control teams in villages and hamlets. In addition, the locality has repaired 37 km of firebreaks to prevent the risk of spreading when a fire occurs.

Continuing the working program, the delegation inspected the field at the Northern Nghe An Forest Protection Management Board, Quynh Luu district and the site of vegetation treatment in Ngoc Son commune and some other hot spots. The unit is managing more than 1,000 hectares of pine forest, and since the beginning of March, it has mobilized forces and households to contract forests to treat vegetation, and has so far completed over 600 hectares. At the same time, the Management Board also supported the cost of engine oil, mobilized human resources to build firebreaks, repaired watchtowers and installed forest fire warning signs.

In Nghi Loc district, the delegation inspected the key forest area of Nghi Lam commune. According to the report of the district People's Committee, the whole district currently has about 500 hectares of pine forest. To proactively respond to the risk of forest fires, Nghi Loc Protective Forest Management Board has implemented many measures such as: Repairing more than 20 firebreaks, treating the ground cover on more than 200 hectares and fully preparing firefighting tools. The district has also equipped 25 blowers, chainsaws, binoculars, knives, sickles; arranged 8 fire watchtowers operating 24/24h and a system of 14 cameras for forest monitoring.

Fire prevention and control work in Nghi Loc district has been carried out synchronously and systematically according to the motto "4 on-site": on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means and on-site logistics. However, there are still many areas of understory vegetation that have not been thoroughly treated, and some firebreaks have not been completed, posing a high risk of forest fires.
After inspecting the site and listening to the report, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De acknowledged the proactiveness of localities in fire prevention and control, especially the development of specific and detailed combat plans and the preparation of response plans according to the "4 on-site" principle.

However, to further improve efficiency, he emphasized a number of key tasks that need to continue to be implemented: Strengthening propaganda andeducation to raise people's awareness and responsibility in forest protection and forest fire prevention and control.
Strengthen forest patrols and inspections, forest fire prevention and control at stations, establish checkpoints to control people entering and leaving the forest; strictly handle acts of using fire to cause forest fires, especially during peak periods. Review, update and complete forest fire prevention and control plans according to the "4 on-site" motto to ensure feasibility and effectiveness during implementation.

Mobilize resources to invest in building a system of white firebreaks between border areas; continue to clear vegetation in key forests. Promote the responsibility of leaders of Party committees, authorities, relevant agencies and organizations in directing, operating and organizing fire fighting when situations arise.

Closely monitor and supervise the burned forest area, investigate and strictly handle violations according to the law to deter and enhance education in the community.
Localities have made proactive and thorough preparations, however, more drastic and synchronous measures are still needed to ensure safety, especially during the current peak of hot weather.
