Many practical and effective models

Ca Mau still has some remote, isolated and coastal areas facing socio -economic difficulties. In that context, the Provincial Women's Union (VWU) has implemented many practical support models to help members develop their economy and create sustainable livelihoods.

Ms. Cao Thi Kiem and Mr. Mai Van Trong used to be poor. Thanks to the support of the State, local authorities, especially the Women's Union at all levels, Ms. Kiem was supported to build a house, get preferential loans and revolving capital support from the grassroots women's union to raise pigs and grow vegetables. With diligence and hard work, her family has escaped poverty for more than 3 years now, and life has gradually stabilized.

Mr. Mai Van Trong (Mrs. Kiem's husband) in Hamlet 4, Khanh Binh Commune is plowing the land to prepare for the new vegetable crop.

Not only Ms. Kiem, from programs such as: Accompanying women members to develop the economy, supporting livelihoods for poor women, turning plastic waste into start-up capital... thousands of women have had access to capital to build effective economic models: aquaculture, growing clean vegetables, producing handicrafts, making cakes, dried foods, sausages, small businesses...

Ms. Pham My Khanh (Hamlet 5, Khanh Binh Commune) shared: “My family has little land, living by raising freshwater fish and buying fish to sell. Thanks to the capital support of the Women's Union, I have expanded the scale and stabilized production. This year, my family voluntarily asked to be removed from the list of poor households.”

Currently, the Provincial Women's Union coordinates with the Social Policy Bank to deploy trust activities in 64/64 communes and wards, with more than 1,430 women's groups borrowing capital, with a total outstanding loan balance of more than 2,500 billion VND. Models such as: Women's savings groups, production linkage groups, piggy bank raising, capital pooling, gold pooling... are widely replicated, bringing about clear results.

In particular, Ca Mau women actively participate in the OCOP program. Many typical products made by women such as dried shrimp, shrimp crackers, salted crab, shrimp paste, dried fish, fish cakes... have been recognized and put on e-commerce platforms, expanding the market and increasing value.

Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, owner of 9 Thuy facility, member of Nong Thinh Phat Cooperative (Khanh Hung commune), shared: “At first, I only produced small-scale products from shrimp and dried fish. Thanks to the Women's Union's support in registering trademarks, participating in the OCOP program and promoting products, revenue increased significantly, creating stable jobs for many local workers.”

Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, owner of facility 9 Thuy, member of Nong Thinh Phat Cooperative (Khanh Hung commune) participated in displaying OCOP products at the Ca Mau Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030.

Thanks to practical companion activities, in 2024, the association at all levels helped more than 1,500 member households and women escape poverty and near-poverty, contributing to the effective implementation of the province's sustainable poverty reduction target. These efforts not only help Ca Mau women become economic masters but also spread the spirit of solidarity and humanity, contributing to the development of their homeland.

Sustainable poverty reduction

Women's Unions at all levels always link economic support activities with the goal of sustainable poverty reduction, implementing many solutions suitable for each target group such as: supporting loans, plants, seeds, vocational training, promoting and connecting product consumption.

In U Minh commune, the Provincial Association has just surveyed two landless women's livelihood groups in Hamlet 5 and Hamlet 7, proposing solutions to support the weaving profession, linking handicraft processing with cooperatives inside and outside the province. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (Hamlet 5) was moved: "I am very happy to receive support. I will try to learn a trade to improve my life."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union (in blue shirt) discussed with members during a working session to find solutions to support livelihoods for landless and landless women in U Minh commune.

Not only supporting livelihoods, the association at all levels also mobilizes the construction of houses for poor and near-poor members, single women in difficult circumstances. Carrying out activities to welcome the Provincial Party Congress and the Ca Mau Provincial Women's Congress, term 2025-2030, the Association has donated 20 charity houses, each worth 60 million VND.

Receiving the new house, Ms. Doan Thi Dong (Lung Chim hamlet, Dinh Thanh commune) shared: "Having a stable house, I am very happy. My family will have the conditions to strive to do business and improve, no longer having to worry about the sun and rain."

It is expected that in 2025, the Women's Union at all levels will continue to accompany and support 688 women's households to escape poverty sustainably. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, affirmed: "We identify supporting women in economic development as a key task. In the coming time, the Union will continue to promote training, technology transfer, market connection and strengthen supervision of the implementation of policies to support women, especially in ethnic minority, coastal and climate change-affected areas"./.
