Providing livelihoods to help women escape poverty
Recently, the Women's Union of Duc An town awarded a livelihood model worth 5 million VND to Ms. Nguyen Thi Soi, a member of a poor household living at the Women's Union of Residential Group 8 to develop her family's economy .
The family is one of the poorest in the commune. Her husband is seriously ill. Ms. Soi is the main breadwinner in the family and their circumstances are extremely difficult. Without much land to cultivate, she mainly works as a hired hand, grows vegetables and raises livestock to earn a living.
Accordingly, the Association supported 100 chickens, bran... and cash so that Ms. Soi's family could expand chicken farming and escape poverty. In addition to providing livelihoods, the Association also provided guidance on farming techniques and connected the family with outlets.
With the support of the Women's Union of the town, Ms. Soi emotionally said: "In difficult times like this, 5 million VND is a large sum of money for my family, a meaningful source of motivation for the family. I am very grateful for your kindness and will try to take care of and develop the chicken flock, using the capital effectively, thereby improving the family economy."
Like Ms. Soi, in 2022, Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy, a member of the Women's Union of Residential Group 1, was supported with a livelihood model worth 5 million VND to buy 200 crossbred fighting chickens and 300 kg of bran for raising. The above amount of money comes from the fund of the Women's Union of the town and the women of Residential Group 1 collect scrap to help members develop the economy.
Through raising chickens, Ms. Thuy sold the chickens for more than 30 million VND, and at the same time, kept 50 hybrid chickens to lay eggs, breed, and raise flocks. With the money earned, Ms. Thuy invested in production and raising animals, and her family's life gradually became more stable.
Diversified activities
Following Uncle Ho's teachings on the spirit of "mutual love and support", women in Duc An town have promoted activities to help each other develop the economy and reduce poverty sustainably. With the motto "Giving a fishing rod is better than giving a fish", the Women's Union of the town has promoted propaganda, aroused the will to escape poverty and provided livelihoods for disadvantaged women in the area.
Accordingly, the Association has organized training sessions, propaganda, sharing and transferring science and technology, and orienting livelihood models for members. The branches regularly review and grasp the situation of poor member families and poor households headed by women, and develop plans to help them escape poverty with specific, practical actions, suitable to the circumstances of each household.
Up to now, the association has established and continued to maintain the operation of 8 women's savings groups, with an amount of over 300 million VND, providing loans to 55 women. Capital sources through the Social Policy Bank channel have been effectively exploited.
According to Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy, President of the Women's Union of Duc An town, the Union has called for socialized resources, raised funds from movements and activities such as Women's Savings Day, scrap collection, etc. to have funding to support and implement the livelihood model, supporting disadvantaged women to develop their economy. At the same time, the Union has also increased propaganda and training activities, and supported capital sources for women to develop livestock, production, and business.
The models and activities are all built in a diverse way, suitable for each specific subject and area, thereby spreading and contributing to poverty reduction, social security, local economic development, and building an increasingly strong association.
