Phuoc Long commune was established by merging Phuoc Long town and Vinh Phu Dong commune. While the former Vinh Phu Dong had strengths in agriculture , with vast land suitable for crop and livestock development, the former Phuoc Long town was the district center, bustling with commerce and services. The combined strengths of these two areas created a solid foundation for a new transformation.

It also improves the appearance of the commune's central area and creates some focal points in urban development.
