When talking about Nghe An culture, we cannot help but mention folk songs and vice versa, when talking about Nghe An folk songs, we are talking about a typical expression of the traditional culture here. One of the important factors when talking about the characteristics of folk songs of a region is language. Along with music, lyrics create the value and characteristics of Nghe An folk songs, in which, the factor that creates the mark and uniqueness is Nghe An language with local accent and vocabulary.

The form and content of Vi and Giam are somewhat different, but they are both poems, the most unique folk songs. The words used in Giam singing are very simple and genuine like in daily life. The music is less smooth and the lyrics are less polished than Vi singing, because it is a song with many lyrics, heavily narrative, reflecting daily life with stories, events, expressing attitudes, feelings, and thoughts of Nghe people.

The systematic change of a series of main sounds in Nghe - Tinh compared to the Northern dialect has created a distinct nuance in pronunciation, creating the characteristic Nghe accent , Nghe dialect and that is also a factor creating the regional characteristics in Vi and Giam, making the folk songs of this region not mixed with other regions. For Nghe - Tinh people, that sound and voice have penetrated deeply into their blood and flesh , so listening to Vi and Giam folk songs is hearing the closeness, earnestness, and affection like the voice of one's heart. Therefore, the language of Nghe - Tinh folk songs is innocent, natural, very close to the spoken language, without the beauty of an elaborate work . In addition to the characteristic of using words according to habit, the uniqueness of Nghe - Tinh folk songs is probably in the choice of using local words instead of national words in situations where that choice itself is appropriate in some aspect, both in terms of content and artistic expression.
