In a recent interview with the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper, Valery Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine's Ambassador to the UK and former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, expressed his belief that European countries are not ready for a prolonged conflict with Russia.

Specifically, according to Mr. Zaluzhnyi, when it comes to short-term military actions, European countries are most likely ready. But now Ukraine is having to think about how Europe will deal with a long-term conflict.

Although he did not say it directly, the former commander-in-chief clearly meant that the West was not ready for a prolonged conflict with Russia.

The Ukrainian ambassador noted that in October alone, Russia deployed more than 1,600 Iranian Shahid drones and about 200 missiles of various types against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to him, this number will increase to about 3,000 drones and missiles per month.

Mr. Zaluzhnyi said that the high cost of air defense is one of the issues that "annoys" Ukraine and Europe.

Specifically, the Ukrainian diplomat analyzed that, logically, if the number of enemy air vehicles increases, then the air defense system must be invested in more.

However, the reality is the opposite, Ukraine's air defense system is currently very limited and lacks very expensive weapons. Therefore, Mr. Zaluzhnyi believes, this is evidence that the West is not fully prepared for a prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In addition, the strategy of attrition warfare, which included in addition to direct combat operations, information and psychological operations, also discouraged the West.

Mr Zaluzhnyi believes that Europe is living in a "safe cradle" and has no intention of leaving it at this time.

Earlier, on November 21, Mr. Zaluzhny said that the West could still make decisions to prevent further dangerous escalations directly on Ukrainian territory. One of the responses would be for France and the UK to keep their “promise” to send troops directly to Ukraine, although it is still unclear what their mission in Ukraine would be.
