On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou Nguyen Viet Dung shared with The Gioi and Viet Nam Newspaper about the significance of the birth of Thanh Nien Newspaper in Guangzhou and the connection between the past, present and future.

According to Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung, leader Nguyen Ai Quoc's choice of Guangzhou as the location of operations, an "international base" of the Vietnamese revolution (1924-1927), was a wise decision, stemming from the perception that Guangzhou had a favorable geographical location, was a vibrant revolutionary center of China, convenient for communication and building a revolutionary network in the country. At the same time, this was also a gateway to easily contact revolutionary organizations and progressive intellectuals from many countries.

“The publication of Thanh Nien Newspaper by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc in Guangzhou 100 years ago (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) has great historical significance, marking an important turning point in the journey to find a way to save the country of the Vietnamese people,” Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung stated.

Thanh Nien newspaper was also a tool to propagate revolutionary theory, according to which the path to national liberation must be closely linked with class struggle and proletarian revolution. The newspaper was also a "revolutionary school" to train cadres with lectures by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc later collected into the book "The Revolutionary Path" (1927), the first revolutionary theory work, laying the ideological foundation for the Communist Party of Vietnam , demonstrating the determination of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc to lead the Vietnamese revolution along the path of proletarian revolution, liberating the nation from colonialism.

Thanh Nien Newspaper is a lasting legacy, affirming the ideology that 'the press is a sharp weapon', 'a torch to light the way', and is a testament to the intelligence and vision of leader Nguyen Ai Quoc in combining patriotism with Marxism-Leninism, recalling the desire of today's young generation to inherit the revolutionary will and creativity to build our country 'more decent and more beautiful' as his last wish”, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung emphasized.

Pointing out that nearly 100 years later, during his State visit to China in August 2024, right after assuming his new position, General Secretary and President To Lam chose Guangzhou city, Guangdong province as his first stop, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung commented that the visit carried many important messages, demonstrating respect for history and the roots of the Vietnamese revolution during the period when Uncle Ho worked in Guangzhou.

The visit is also an opportunity for the highest-ranking leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to express their affection and respect for the Party Committee, Government and People of Guangdong Province in general and Guangzhou City in particular, a province that is not only geographically close but also has a deeply connected history with Vietnam.

“It can be said that these two important milestones, with Guangzhou as the bridge, taking place exactly 100 years ago, demonstrate the parallelism between the past and the present, the crystallization of history, diplomacy and strategic vision. If Uncle Ho laid the foundation for the revolutionary relationship between Vietnam and China during the period of seeking a way to save the country, then General Secretary and President To Lam continued to develop that relationship in the new era, accordingly, developing a stable, sustainable, long-term relationship, constantly strengthening political trust, expanding and deepening cooperation with China has always been a consistent policy, a strategic choice and a top priority in Vietnam's independent, autonomous, diversified and multilateral foreign policy,” Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung concluded.
