On May 26th, the Paris Court of First Instance ruled to lift the freeze on 55 million euros from PSG's accounts. This was the amount that Mbappe had demanded from his former club in a dispute that had lasted more than six months.
Previously, Mbappe had accused the Parisian club of failing to fulfill its contractual payment obligations. Last October, the French Football Federation's (LFP) Appeals Committee sided with Mbappe in this case. However, PSG immediately reacted by declaring they would not comply with the decision and would take the matter to a higher court.
To protect his rights, Mbappe has hired a team of three lawyers specializing in criminal, labor, and litigation matters. The Real Madrid star also hopes UEFA will ban PSG from participating in future European competitions if he wins the case.
However, the latest ruling from the Paris Court of First Instance has overturned this freeze, creating a major turning point in the dispute between the player and the club.
On May 13th, PSG filed a countersuit against Mbappe, demanding compensation of up to 100 million euros. The Ligue 1 champions cited the player's reputational damage and repeated delays in providing evidence. PSG also emphasized that their goal was not to recover the 98 million euros, but to prove the French striker wrong.
With this new ruling, PSG can breathe a sigh of relief, but the legal battle between the two sides still holds many surprises in the future.
