This afternoon, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense held a Military-Political Conference for the entire army in the first 6 months of the year. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, member of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission attended and delivered a directive speech; General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense, chaired the conference.

Also attending the conference were leaders of central departments, ministries and branches; members of the Central Military Commission Standing Committee, members of the Central Military Commission; representatives of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, the General Staff, agencies and units under the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, reported briefly on the results of military and defense work in the first 6 months of the year.

The entire army is always ready for combat, grasps and accurately forecasts the situation, promptly advises the Party and State to flexibly and effectively handle situations, avoids being passive or surprised, firmly protects territorial sovereignty, and maintains security and order throughout the country.

The army proactively coordinates with all levels and sectors, promotes the strength of the entire political system and the entire people, builds an increasingly solid national defense, defense of military zones and defense areas at all levels.

Coordinate closely and properly in directing planning and training commune-level military commanders according to regulations; propose plans to arrange and assign commune-level military officers in accordance with new task requirements.

The army has mobilized over 50,800 troops, militia and self-defense forces, along with nearly 2,100 ships, boats, helicopters and other vehicles. These forces participate in preventing and fighting natural disasters, fires, forest fires, searching and rescuing fishermen and forces operating on land and islands, contributing to protecting the peaceful life of the people.
