Coach Jose Mourinho and Benfica had a stormy away trip to Newcastle's St James' Park in the third match of the 2025/26 Champions League group stage.

Right after the opening whistle, both teams entered the game with great enthusiasm, with a series of attacks. After many missed opportunities, the home team finally took the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to an accurate finish from Anthony Gordon.

In the 83rd minute, Barnes completed his own double, this time from a delicate assist from Gordon - the player considered the brightest star of the match.

In the end, Newcastle won convincingly 3-0 against Benfica, thereby temporarily rising to the top of the table. Meanwhile, Mourinho's army continued to face difficulties in the race for a ticket to the next round of the Champions League.
