The Military Region 9 Command used three ships with a capacity of 60-200 tons to carry more than 1,600 m3 of clean water to provide free of charge to people lacking clean water in Ca Mau .
Yesterday, three ships of the 659th Transport Brigade equipped with pumps and tanks from Can Tho City brought clean water to provide free of charge to people in Khanh Binh Dong Commune, Tran Van Thoi District; Bien Bach Commune, Thoi Binh District and Khanh Thuan Commune, U Minh District. According to the plan, on the morning of April 8, the ships will be present at the above locations, and the soldiers will supply water to the people. The transportation of clean water to provide free of charge to people in drought and salinity areas will be carried out by the 9th Military Region from now until the end of the dry season, depending on the weather and the people's living needs.
Specific free water supply points include the section on Ong Doc River, near Khanh An Bridge, Khanh Binh Dong Commune; Trem River, opposite Bien Bach Commune People's Committee and Hamlet 20, Khanh Thuan Commune.
According to statistics from the functional sector, currently, the whole province of Ca Mau has more than 2,600 households lacking and not being able to proactively source water for daily life due to drought. Of these, more than 1,700 households have especially difficult access to water sources due to the inability to exploit groundwater, dry canals, subsidence of roads, and traffic disruption...
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just agreed to use nearly 500 million VND from the provincial budget reserve to support the three districts of Tran Van Thoi, U Minh and Thoi Binh to buy water storage equipment for the people. The province also organizes the expansion of the water supply pipeline network of existing works to meet the people's domestic water needs (purchase of materials and equipment worth about 9.5 billion VND).
In addition to Ca Mau, drought has also affected many provinces such as Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh , Soc Trang, tens of thousands of hectares of rice and crops lack water. Some provinces have hired barges to transport water to supply people.
