Quang Binh: Efforts to "position" the green destination brand

With the advantage of rich and diverse natural tourism resources, especially the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park (PN-KB National Park), Quang Binh has become a "natural, attractive and unique destination" for domestic and foreign tourists. Currently, the Quang Binh tourism industry is making efforts to "position" the brand as a green destination.

From “heritage” tourism brand…

PN-KB National Park covers an area of ​​123,326 hectares, spanning Minh Hoa and Bo Trach districts, Quang Binh province. This is the largest national park in Vietnam with many outstanding values ​​in geology, geomorphology, biodiversity and ecosystems. PN-KB National Park is on the journey towards the Green List standards of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Since PN-KB National Park was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage in 2003, along with the preservation of outstanding global values, tourism activities here have continuously developed. If at first, PN-KB tourism was only a tour to visit Phong Nha-Tien Son cave, after two decades of the tourism industry exploiting and promoting the value of heritage resources, PN-KB has dozens of routes and tourist attractions and is constantly developing in a sustainable direction.

Up to now, the World Natural Heritage PN-KB National Park has not only affirmed its position as the "heart" of Quang Binh tourism, but also become a leading destination for Vietnamese tourism and reached the world. With a system of 447 caves with a total length of over 246km surveyed, PN-KB National Park is truly a paradise for adventure and discovery tourism. Among the products currently being exploited, many products have been positioned on the world's adventure tourism map. In particular, the tour "Conquering Son Doong - the world's largest cave", is considered one of the world-class tours, voted by foreign press as one of the world's most attractive tourist destinations.

Along with the majestic cave system, PN-KB has also affirmed itself as an attractive and unique natural destination with many ecotourism and experience products. Among them, the ecotourism sites of Nuoc Mooc stream, Chay river-Dark cave, ecotourism and environmental interpretation of the botanical garden... are also the choices of many tourists, especially during holidays and peak tourist seasons.

The increasing number of tourists to PN-KB has affirmed the strong brand of “heritage” tourism and its position as the “heart” of Quang Binh tourism. In the past 5 years, PN-KB National Park has welcomed more than 2.67 million tourists, of which domestic tourists accounted for more than 2.36 million and international tourists accounted for more than 296,000.

...To "position" green destinations

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Dong Ha said: After the Covid-19 pandemic, green tourism, responsible tourism, and sustainable tourism have become trends in world tourism. Not out of that trend, in recent years, the Quang Binh tourism industry has been making efforts every day to build a green destination brand.

Quang Binh Tourism Industry has been accompanying and supporting tourism businesses in developing green tourism with tourism products adapted to climate change, Net Zero tourism; linking with international travel companies to form tourism programs following the trend of reducing carbon emissions...

Currently, some tourism businesses in the area have pioneered and innovated in building sustainable green tourism products. A typical example is Chua Me Dat Company Limited with the Blue Diamond Retreat Resort in Xuan Trach Commune (Bo Trach). This is one of the first tourism products in Quang Binh built according to the Net Zero trend.

Mr. Nguyen Chau A, General Director of Chua Me Dat Company Limited, shared: “Blue Diamond Retreat is Oxalis’s most favorite product. Here, the houses are built in the middle of the forest, surrounded by blue streams. This is an accommodation area that uses 100% solar energy, and is also the only place in Vietnam that uses a natural cooling system simulating a cave system.

Blue Diamond Retreat is also the only place in Vietnam with an underground swimming pool, this is also the only place (so far, if not counting the squid-catching tour) that has a night kayak tour to watch schools of fish swimming around following the boat, where there is a system of wooden bridges nearly 1,000m long connecting the houses together. In particular, this is an accommodation where tourists feel like they are in the deep forest, but not too far to reach from Phong Nha town.

In addition, Quang Binh’s nature experience tourism products, cave exploration, and eco-tourism are also products that are suitable for the green tourism trend and will continue to be improved in the coming time. These “green tourism” products are quite impressive and different with high selling prices, thereby creating a strong driving force for shifting products towards green and sustainable direction.

“In order to create competitiveness and target the market in a broad way for green tourism development, the Quang Binh tourism industry will focus on implementing many different solutions synchronously, such as: Promoting propaganda work, raising awareness for the community, businesses, and people about the role and significance of green tourism development. This combination not only creates sustainable tourism development but also promotes rural economic development and new rural construction in depth and effectively,” emphasized Mr. Dang Dong Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

According to tourism experts, building a green destination brand is not only about building tours and routes associated with nature protection but also about building a green attitude towards the environment and natural resources. Sharing with reporters about this, Mr. Hoang Minh Thang, Director of the PN-KB Tourism Center, said that this is one of the most important criteria in developing green tourism.

According to Mr. Hoang Minh Thang, tourists coming to PN-KB are not only satisfied with the unique and exclusive tourism products, but also feel secure because of the hospitality, enthusiastic guidance and assistance of the tourism staff and local people. All officers, employees, boat crews, and tourism photography teams of the unit are regularly trained and improved in their professional skills in welcoming and civilizing tourists. In particular, "picking up lost items and returning them to their owners" has become a regular activity, a competitive movement, spreading widely, making PN-KB, which is already beautiful, even more beautiful and safer in the hearts of tourists...

Green tourism is becoming an inevitable trend. Quang Binh tourism industry is also developing in a green, sustainable direction based on the cultural, natural and human values ​​of the locality. However, to “position” a green tourism destination, efforts from many sides are needed. And, with just one green action from tourists, people… the value of tourism and local heritage will be greatly enhanced…
