Que Son supports OCOP subjects

(QNO) - In recent years, despite many difficulties, Que Son district has still made efforts to support enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and individual production and business households to strongly develop OCOP products. Thereby, contributing to promoting labor restructuring and rural economic development.

Step by step growth

Mr. Phan Truong Au - owner of Phu Sa confectionery production facility (Que Xuan 1 commune, Que Son) said that in early 2020, his family registered to participate in the OCOP program with coconut waffle products.

According to Mr. Au, in the process of building OCOP products, his facility received active support from specialized departments of Que Son district and the government of Que Xuan 1 commune.

“Along with the training on the OCOP cycle and creating conditions for study tours, the relevant units also considered supporting me in two phases with a budget of more than 180 million VND to invest in expanding the factory, purchasing machinery and equipment, improving packaging and design…” - Mr. Au said.

Thanks to the good product quality, meeting the prescribed criteria, at the end of 2020, Phu Sa coconut waffle was ranked 3 OCOP stars by the Provincial People's Committee. At the end of 2024, this product was assessed and recognized again with 3 OCOP stars by the Que Son District People's Committee.

Mr. Phan Truong Au added that over the past 5 years, thanks to actively promoting and introducing products and efforts to connect with partners, the consumption of Phu Sa coconut waffles has increased sharply.

“Currently, my facility's average monthly revenue from coconut waffles is about 300 million VND, an increase of more than 30% compared to the end of 2020 - when it was first recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards,” Mr. Au shared.

Thanks to the great efforts of the enterprise and the active support from many sides, in recent years, Quy Thu Production and Trading Company Limited (Phu My village, Que Xuan 2 commune, Que Son) has become a "bright spot" in implementing the OCOP program in Quang Nam . Up to now, the company has 1 product that meets the 5-star OCOP standard, which is grilled coconut cake, and 2 products with 3-star OCOP rating, which are sticky rice cake and square glutinous rice cake.

Thanks to the good quality of cakes, especially Quy Thu Production and Trading Company Limited focuses on trade promotion and product promotion, so it is very popular with consumers. Currently, the company's cake products are supplied to more than 30 large consumption points across the country, with the focus being Hanoi , Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. It is worth mentioning that in recent years, the company has also provided products to a number of large enterprises for official export to the US and Dutch markets...

Results from the relay

Mr. Nguyen Chi Tung - Vice Chairman of Que Son District People's Committee said that from 2018 to now, relevant sectors and authorities of 18 communes and towns of the district have actively supported the subjects participating in the OCOP program from the stage of determining ideas to building sample forms, establishing and implementing production - business plans into practice of each unit according to the OCOP cycle.

At the same time, we pay attention to training to improve the quality of human resources, provide technical guidance and apply science and technology. Along with that, we orient the planning of production areas for goods and services to encourage and support economic organizations to develop product production according to the complete value chain.

According to Mr. Tung, every year, the authorities of Que Son conduct reviews and provide guidance to entities registering products to participate in the OCOP program. Notably, the district's interdisciplinary working group visits each production facility to inspect and support entities in completing products as well as product evaluation and classification records.

Mr. Tran Vu Tanh - Deputy Head of Que Son Department of Agriculture and Environment informed that in the period of 2018-2024, the district spends an average of 1.5-2 billion VND per year to implement the OCOP program.

“The above funding sources mainly prioritize support for entities to have conditions to invest in new construction, upgrading, and repairing infrastructure; purchasing machinery and equipment for production; building brands, establishing packaging - labels, traceability stamps, quality inspection, promoting and connecting with partners to consume products…” – Mr. Tanh shared.

Mr. Tran Vu Tanh added that thanks to the efforts to effectively implement many tasks, by the end of 2024, Que Son had 43 products recognized as meeting OCOP standards. Of which, there was 1 5-star product, 3 4-star products, and 39 3-star products.

“In 2025, the entire Que Son district will register to develop 16 new OCOP products from 3-star level and above. It is expected that the district will spend more than 1.1 billion VND to support the entities implementing this program…” – Mr. Tanh added.
