Lesson 1: Be alert to the plot to "brainwash" young people

Reality shows that reactionary and hostile forces often identify young people as one of the main subjects that need to be bribed and enticed, especially in terms of ideology and psychology. Carrying out the plot and trick of “peaceful evolution”, they deliberately cling to important political events of the country and developments in economic, cultural and social life according to the mainstream news to increase their sabotage activities.

In recent days, youth organizations at all levels across the country have stepped up activities to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 / March 26, 2023), implementing many contents in response to Youth Month 2023. Taking advantage of the young people's focus on media activities about the Union, hostile forces and political opportunists have created excuses to dig deeper, dig deeper, and fabricate evidence to interfere with information, attack internally and externally, and steer public opinion according to pre-planned intentions and scenarios.

A ridiculous stereotype when political opportunists make the fallacy that the Youth Union is just a formal cover, no longer suitable for young people in the era of international integration. From that distorted argument, on the basis of "evidence" and encouragement of a few young people with deviant lifestyles and law violations, they incorporate information, comments, and fallacies to deny the role of the Youth Union for young people, deny the leadership role of the Party with the Youth Union in particular and with the country in general. Through the forms of discussions, interviews, and collecting opinions from young people, they arrange for young people who are Vietnamese living abroad with thoughts of opposing our Party and State to spread and convey reactionary thoughts. From personal opinions on a number of forums, they demand the abolition of the Youth Union badge, calling on young people to boycott the Youth Union organization and youth movements.

By denying the achievements of the Youth Union, they call on young people and young intellectuals to follow the “progressive” trend, the “liberal” and “democratic” ideology, and praise young people who have gone astray as “heroes”. Many overseas news sites in Vietnamese call these people with exaggerated titles such as “democracy activists”, “ human rights fighters”, “social critics”… promoting the trend of taking advantage of freedom of speech to “criticize”, and entice young people to leave the Youth Union and the Party. In anticipation of the political activities and events of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, in recent times, some people have taken advantage of non-governmental organizations and charity activities to gather and entice Vietnamese youth to participate in training courses abroad in order to “brainwash” and spread extremist ideology, opposing the Party and the State.

It is easy to see that, taking advantage of the trick of following the flow of rain, the current campaign of attacks and sabotage by hostile forces is aimed at the youth and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in the days when the youth of the whole country are looking forward to the 92nd birthday of the Union. Hostile forces take advantage of the psychological characteristics of youth, which are easily accessible to new things, love freedom, and self-assertion, but their awareness of political and social issues is not yet mature enough, so they seek every way to propagate, incite, bribe, and corrupt in order to destroy this powerful reserve force of the revolution.

The 4.0 Industrial Revolution has drastically changed the way people communicate. This is an opportunity for hostile forces to take advantage of communication technology and social networks to influence psychology in order to attract the younger generation. They post many documents with reactionary content, ambiguous, speculative, and incorrect information, with the sinister plot of denying the achievements of the country and people in the past and present as well as the position and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena, creating online forums for many young people to access and orienting comments in a negative direction, aiming to spread skepticism, discouragement, leading to political disorientation. They increase the dissemination of obscene and violent publications, promote a pragmatic lifestyle that corrupts people, arouses instinctive desires, pursues pleasure, refuses to study, work and contribute.

In addition, self-proclaimed “radical democrats” also spread information to degrade and defame the honor of high-ranking officials of our Party and State; delve into recent corruption and negative incidents in society to sway public opinion and incite the young generation to express dissatisfaction with what they call “the tragedy of the country”. Through spyware, spreading malicious codes, stealing personal information, internal information, hostile forces fabricate, create scenarios, spread fake information, create smokescreens to defame, distort history, speak ill of our Party, State and leaders, creating in the youth a mentality of skepticism, pessimism, crisis of confidence, hesitation in determining goals and ideals to strive for. Then they orient the ideals of life for Vietnamese youth with arguments about "The journey of self-evolution among Vietnamese international students", with the stereotype that, when approaching civilization and modernity, international students will sooner or later turn their backs on the country, never to return.

The strategies and tricks of hostile forces to “brainwash” Vietnamese youth have been adjusted and changed more and more sophisticatedly to transform their ideology, promote the process of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” in the future owners of the country. This reality requires the Youth Union in general and each Youth Union member in particular to be alert to avoid falling into the “degradation trap” set by opportunists.

Phenomenon does not tell the truth

In reality, some young people are inexperienced, gullible, and have eaten the illusionary “pie in the sky” and have degenerated in personality, inadvertently becoming effective tools for hostile forces to exploit. That is also the result of the situation of “indifference to the Party, lack of the Youth Union, and distance from politics” among a part of the youth. However, it must be affirmed that this is only a minority, a phenomenon, not the essence. Taking advantage of those rare phenomena, revisionist elements have used the excuse of “logical reasoning” to judge that Vietnamese youth in all stages of the revolution have people who know how to “awaken” to follow the call of “democracy” and “progressivity”.

In the face of the "peaceful evolution" plot of hostile forces, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union has promoted its role in propaganda, education, ideological orientation, and information orientation on mass media, especially more than 4,000 fanpages on Facebook from the central to the grassroots levels and 2.2 million subscribers connected to the mobile application "Thanh Nien Viet Nam", along with many other propaganda methods.

To expose dark plots and refute false arguments, the Youth Union's media campaign affirms and provides specific evidence that has been recorded in history about the important role of the Youth Union and the achievements of the young generation of Vietnam in revolutionary periods.

The propaganda and orientation of public opinion among the youth have been carried out systematically, providing a comprehensive overview of the entire process of building and maturing the Union and the great contributions of the youth. Obviously, history cannot deny that under the glorious flag of the Party, continuing the heroic revolutionary tradition of the nation, generations of Vietnamese youth have always upheld patriotism, national pride, and are ready to sacrifice to protect the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. Looking back at the nearly century-long history of building and maturing the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, we remember the names that have become immortal, monuments of generations of Vietnamese youth in terms of patriotism and self-sacrifice for a great cause. “The path of youth is only the revolutionary path, there can be no other path” - the immortal saying of hero martyr Ly Tu Trong, the first member of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union - has become an ideal of life and a weapon of combat, a "compass" for the actions of Vietnamese youth in every revolutionary period.

In the harsh challenges of war, on all fronts, there were tens of thousands of brave soldiers and emulation fighters, determined-to-win soldiers, millions of outstanding young people participating in combat and serving combat, heroically sacrificing, dedicating their entire youth to the revolutionary cause. In the period of national construction, young people are always an important force with the spirit of shock, volunteering, striving to study, work, and train to build a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

In recent years, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union at all levels has made many innovations and breakthroughs in terms of content and methods of operation. The work of the Youth Union and youth movements are increasingly suitable, close to reality and meet the legitimate needs and aspirations of young union members. Typical examples include the movements: "Youth volunteers", "Creative youth", "Youth volunteers to protect the Fatherland"; programs: "Accompanying young people in studying"; "Accompanying young people in starting a business and establishing a career"; "Accompanying young people in training and developing life skills, improving physical fitness, cultural and spiritual life"... Through this, many examples of young people successfully establishing themselves and establishing careers; many young people have brought glory to the Fatherland in different fields. They are bright spots in forming a generation of young people with clear political awareness and ideals, daring to face challenges and difficulties to establish themselves and establish a career, contributing to building a rich and powerful socialist Vietnamese State. A vivid proof is that during the 2017-2022 term, the entire Youth Union posted and shared nearly 25 million good news and beautiful stories among young people; the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union awarded 210 "Brave Youth" badges and hundreds of thousands of awards to honor typical examples of young people in all areas of social life.

Reality is a clear affirmation that a part of the youth with fading ideals and deviant lifestyles is just a small, silent dot in the overall picture of the bright spirit of dedication of the youth. Speaking at the 11th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, term 2017-2022, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out the responsibility of the Union in orienting youth education: Avoid "insipidity of the Party, dryness of the Union, and distance from politics". During the term of the 11th Congress, the General Secretary's instruction was thoroughly grasped by the Youth Union at all levels, concretized through many specific activities and movements. Speaking at the 12th National Congress of the Youth Union for the 2022-2027 term, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong acknowledged: "Young people have truly been promoting their youthful strengths, their pioneering, creative and volunteering spirit in difficult and arduous places, new and difficult tasks, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland."
