The children's book season is in full swing!
To celebrate Children's Day and the summer of 2023, publishing houses are releasing many new works and organizing reading activities and interactive spaces to welcome young readers.
| "Summer Reading Corner" - a free activity for children organized by Kim Dong Publishing House this summer. |
Kim Dong Publishing House has always been a leading publisher in the children's book industry, striving to bring young readers a rich and diverse selection of works during holidays and festivals. This summer, for preschoolers, there are eye-catching and engaging picture books. These include "My Dad Is a Runner" by author Bui Phuong Tam and illustrator Jeet Dzũng; the "I Love My Family" series, offering meaningful stories about the love between grandparents, parents, and siblings; and the "Healthier Baby" series, helping parents convey health information: Why vaccinations are necessary? Why eat vegetables and exercise? Why shouldn't parents let their children watch too much TV?... Also noteworthy are the whimsical and interesting books by Gemma Merino: "Harry the Rabbit," "The Cow Climbing the Tree," "The Sheep Hatching Eggs," "The Crocodile Who Doesn't Like Water," and "The Dragon Who Doesn't Like Fire."
Also belonging to the picture book genre, Tre Publishing House has just released an interesting series called "Long-running stories about cats," consisting of two books, "Blindfolded Cat Catching" and "Cat Chasing Mouse," introducing Vietnamese folk games and nursery rhymes. In addition, there is the series "Little Lessons" by author Nguyen Tan Thanh Truc and illustrator Minh Duc, with charming stories about the world of fruits and animals; and the series "Magical Stories about Shapes - Colors - Numbers," which helps children recognize the value of numbers, colors, and objects around them.
The Women's Publishing House is paying attention to preschool readers with the book series "The Mission to Protect the Environment" by author Séverine de la Croix. Crabit Kidbooks and Hanoi Publishing House are introducing book series such as "Railway Adventures," "Olga's Science Diary," etc.
For older age groups, there are many literary books, with a clear preference for works by domestic authors. Notable examples include the excellent novel "Autobiography of a Pig" by Ly Lan; the short story collection "Let's Stand on Tiptoe" by Nguyen My Nu; the essay collection "Father's Fairy Tales" by Phi Tan; "Dong Vang Valley" by Trung Sy; "Treasures in the City" by Nguyen Khac Cuong; and a three-volume collection of short stories by Tham Tam, comprising prose works written for children before the August Revolution, including "The Turtle Carrying the Parrot" (fairy tales), "Two Jasmine Trees" (fairy tales), and "Water Dragon" (historical stories).
In the translated book category, we can't overlook the cheerful duo "The Noisy Village Kids" and "The Noisy Village is So Much Fun," as well as the humorous and poetic work "Strange Creatures in Me-He-He-He-He-He." Young readers can also meet the famous and familiar author Gianni Rodari through his latest book translated into Vietnamese - "Adventures in the Kingdom of Why," or the two books "Kafka and the Doll" and "Uncle Izzy Pippik's Hen," published from translations by two young translators in the "Touch the Word" competition organized by the children's book brand Crabit Kidbooks.
Not only literary books, but also books on scientific knowledge, skills, and career guidance have been updated. Tre Publishing House introduces "Famous Stories About Tigers Never Told Before," the "Journey of Discovery " series, the "Famous Historical Figures of Vietnam" comic book series, and the "Cultivating Character" series... Meanwhile, Kim Dong Publishing House offers readers a diverse range of knowledge in "Dictionary of Traditional Vietnamese Culture," the "Vietnamese Dialects" series, the "Who Are They?" series, and the work "Journey into the World of Medicine from Ancient Times to the Present"...
Along with the launch of new or reprinted books, there are many reading activities, interactive games, and book fairs with many special offers for children, such as the "Children's Book Fair - Fun Summer Exploration" program by Dinh Ti Books, "Summer Gifts" by Thai Ha Books, and "Happy Children's Day - Joyful Summer Welcome" at Hanoi Book Street. In particular, Kim Dong Publishing House is launching a series of "Summer Reading Corners" every Saturday morning (from May 27th to August 26th) at the Kim Dong Publishing House headquarters (55 Quang Trung, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) for children aged 3-11. The publisher hopes that children will have an enjoyable experience reading books of various genres such as poetry, stories, science books, knowledge books, and skill-building books... with guidance from writers, poets, artists, and editors through interesting themes designed to suit each age group. This collection of books includes "Walking into the World of Fairy Tales with You," "15 Tips to Keep Me Safe This Summer," "Put Down Your Phone!", "The Wonderful Universe," "Science in an Egg," "Understanding the Human Body," "Angry Like a Lion - Helping Young Children Understand the Concept and How to Eliminate Negative Emotions," etc.
Overall, the efforts of the publishing industry have contributed to helping Vietnamese children have a positive summer vacation.
