Wider opportunities to choose schools and careers.

Báo Bắc GiangBáo Bắc Giang23/07/2023

(BGĐT) - The educational path for students after completing junior and senior high school is increasingly wide open. Diverse admission methods and training models with varying costs give students the opportunity to choose schools and professions that suit their abilities and family's economic conditions.

Diverse training models

The province currently has 63 high schools, vocational training centers, continuing education centers, and colleges. At the end of the 2023-2024 high school entrance exam, over 16,000 students were admitted, while more than 3,000 others switched to private schools or vocational training institutions. Thanks to effective counseling and career guidance, over 6,000 ninth-grade students did not wish to take the high school entrance exam and chose alternative educational models.

The admissions department of theFPT College-High School System is providing admissions counseling for 10th grade in the 2023-2024 academic year.

From June until now, it has been the peak period for vocational education institutions and private high schools to open for enrollment. Ms. Vu Lan Huong, an admissions officer at the FPT College and High School System, said: “Currently, the unit has received applications from 150 students in Bac Giang province, reaching 50% of the planned target. The school is open for registration until the end of July so that the 2023-2024 school year can begin in August.”

Admission is based on a combination of 9th-grade academic transcripts and aptitude tests. With a modern integrated high school and college education model, over three years, students are equipped with cultural knowledge in core subjects (Mathematics, Literature, History + one elective subject) combined with practical experience, vocational education, life skills, and specialized studies.

In addition, private high schools such as Nguyen Hong (Bac Giang City), Doi Ngo (Luc Nam), Nguyen Binh Khiem (Viet Yen), and vocational colleges in the province have received 220-300 applications for admission based on academic transcripts.

For the 2023-2024 academic year, Bac Giang Vietnam-Korea College of Technology has been allocated 700 places for high school education combined with vocational training and 700 places for college-level programs. For the vocational training program, applications will begin in June, including 9th-grade academic results and junior high school diplomas. Admission will be based on scores from highest to lowest until the enrollment quota is filled.

In recent years, due to the increasing number of applications, the quality of the school's entrance examinations has improved compared to previous years. Currently, the number of applications has exceeded the assigned quota. Many students have achieved an average passing score of 6.5-7 points per subject in their academic subjects. Nguyen Hoang Anh, from Kien Thanh commune (Luc Ngan district), who recently submitted her application, said: "After researching, I decided to choose to study both academic subjects and vocational training so that vocational training will be free, reducing the financial burden on my family."

Consider your capabilities and family circumstances.

In recent years, many universities and colleges have reformed their admission methods by using high school graduation exam results, academic transcripts, or organizing aptitude tests. Therefore, before the 2023 high school graduation exam, many 12th-grade students received good news about their admission results, significantly reducing pressure on candidates who only needed to achieve an average score of over 5 points and not have any failing subjects (1 or below) to pass.

Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, residing in Hoang Van Thu ward (Bac Giang city), said that since May, she has met the eligibility requirements for admission to the Diplomatic Academy through the aptitude test. This is Minh Ngoc's dream school, so during her three years of high school, she always strived to study hard, improve her knowledge, and participate in skill-building clubs to meet the criteria.

The labor market always needs a diverse workforce with many professions and educational levels, including university, college, vocational school, and basic training. Each student should choose the most suitable educational path based on their abilities, strengths, personal circumstances, and family background.

To ensure that education is tailored to the needs and circumstances of families, most schools publish enrollment quotas, training plans, and tuition fees for students to refer to.

For private high schools and vocational education institutions in the province, the training programs and teaching plans are reviewed by the Department of Education and Training and other specialized agencies, and contributions are made according to the regulations of the Provincial People's Council.

Meanwhile, at the FPT College-level High School System in Bac Giang, tuition fees for the intermediate level are 13 million VND/semester; for the college level, they range from nearly 10 million VND to 12.4 million VND/semester.

According to Mr. Ngo Quoc Duong, Head of the Secondary Education and Continuing Education Department (Department of Education and Training), each training model has different forms, training durations, and contribution fees. Learners need to make appropriate decisions based on their aspirations, abilities, labor market needs, and family economic conditions.

Each student should choose the most suitable educational path based on their abilities, strengths, personal circumstances, and family background. The admissions period for high schools, colleges, and universities is not yet over. Educational institutions are still opening their doors, intensifying communication, counseling, and introducing preferential policies to attract students to participate in learning on a voluntary basis.
