Round 8 of the 2025/26 Premier League witnessed a 'change of fortune' for MU , when they came to visit Anfield, where it was difficult to leave - they have not known victory since 2016, that is, 9 years!

Notably, the victory of Ruben Amorim 's army came in a context where they were still heavily doubted due to poor results since the beginning of the season.
But on a day of double luck, while Liverpool were not, MU really broke the 'curse' at Anfield, winning a valuable 2-1.
Joy came early for the visitors, with Mbeumo opening the scoring in the second minute. In the 78th minute, Gakpo equalized for home team Liverpool, but center-back Harry Maguire was destined to be the Red Devils' hero - scoring a great header in the 84th minute.
Not only was it their first win at Anfield in nine years, beating Liverpool also marked another change – the first time United had won two consecutive Premier League games under Ruben Amorim.
After the final whistle, the Portuguese captain shared that " the victory against Liverpool was the biggest and most wonderful victory as MU captain ".

Ruben Amorim also pointed out the secret to MU defeating the reigning cup holders: excelling in set pieces and blocking the ball well from the start, with the presence of experienced players .
“ This is my biggest victory since leading MU. It means a lot today, but tomorrow it will not mean much anymore.
We fought for every ball. In the second half we were a little bit lacking in composure but the fighting spirit was there and that is the most important thing. Once you have the will, you can win any game .”
When asked about the secret to helping MU overcome the challenge at Anfield, Amorim said: “ We just watched the match and understood the importance of set pieces. Therefore, the more experienced players will enter the field from the beginning.
Every time you play at this level, if you block the ball well from the start you can feel the rotation of the defense. A worthy victory for MU."
The 40-year-old coach added : “The victory gives us more confidence and brings joy to the fans. Today is a good day, I will enjoy this match, but now I am worried about the competition with Brighton…”.
