In 2021, when there was a project of the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An province in coordination with Tan Hung Thinh Cooperative and Thanh Chuong District Farmers' Association to test the restoration of Tho Hao ginseng variety on a scale of 3 hectares, initially 10 households participated.

After 9 months of pilot planting, the yield of Tho Hao ginseng tubers reached an average of 3.5 - 4 tons/ha with a selling price of 200,000 - 250,000 VND/kg. After deducting costs, each hectare of this precious ginseng variety brought in a profit of nearly 200 million VND.

It is found that Tho Hao ginseng is an easy-to-care-for plant, rarely affected by pests and diseases, requires little investment in fertilizer, and is many times more effective than many other crops.

After the project ended, many people invested in expanding the area of ​​growing Tho Hao ginseng. Currently, in the whole commune, people are growing more than 2 hectares of Tho Hao ginseng. Of which, it is mainly concentrated in two hamlets 1 and 4. The people who grow the most are Mr. Hoang Kiem and Lam Van Hanh.

The flower of the ginseng plant is also one of the parts that can be used as medicine, processed into many other products that are beneficial to health.

Tho Hao ginseng has a cold nature, good for nourishing the body, fighting weakness, fighting stress, and helping to sleep.

In the past, Tho Hao ginseng was quite popularly grown by people, but over time this type of ginseng has been exhausted and forgotten right on the land where it was born.

Once in an old book, I found the book Thanh Chuong Huyen Chi by Bui Duong Lich wrote: Tho Hao's land is suitable for ginseng, every family grows it, the ginseng leaves are green, the flowers are bright pink, the picture is very beautiful. In Tho Hao's ginseng roots there are holes. In spring, sow seeds, at the end of the year harvest the roots, steam them, dry them to make a tonic.

The book Geography of Nghe An, published in 1933 by Dao Dang Huy, wrote: “In Tho Hao village, Bich Hao commune, Thanh Chuong district, there is a type of ginseng called Hao ginseng. But in fact, this type is not called ginseng like other types of ginseng often used for medicine.

It is just a type of ginseng-like root that the Chinese call “tê”, so it is not very valuable. Legend has it that this type of ginseng was brought back to Tho Hao by Mr. Pham Kinh Vy in the past.
