Observations in the area show that landslides are creating 8-9m high banks, vertical along the river. Many corn and banana fields have been eroded and gradually lost. Many land areas are sinking and cracking for a long time.
The landslide location stretches hundreds of meters along the Da River in areas 2, 6, 7 of Tu Vu commune.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bien, who lives opposite the landslide site, informed: In the past, when this phenomenon did not occur, people still cultivated on the riverbank such as growing milkweed, vegetables... But in the past few years, the bank has gradually disappeared and formed broken banks due to continuous erosion. Also according to Ms. Bien, the erosion is continuing to occur strongly, the landslide sites still encroach on the cultivated areas of people in zones 2, 6, 7...
Most of the landslides have reached the corn fields cultivated by people.
Many banana trees were "pulled" down to the Da River by landslides.
Many piles were also buried under the riverbed by landslides.
Talking to reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, Head of Zone 2 - where landslides are occurring strongly and continuously, added: The landslides started in 2019 and are becoming more and more complicated. In Zone 2 alone, up to now, hundreds of households are being affected, such as losing farmland and crops...
According to Ms. Thao, the locality previously put up many warning signs for people to be careful when grazing cattle, farming... but due to strong landslides, the warning signs were washed into the river.
Discussing information, currently (August 25, 2025), according to the reporter's observation, there are no warning signs in this area. Mr. Nguyen Van Duc - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee emphasized: The locality has organized the installation of warning signs in the area, but due to strong landslides, the signs have gradually disappeared.
The extremely dangerous landslides, as they continue to develop in a complex manner, have created steep banks 8-9 meters high from the river surface with many large cracks.
A series of plastic tarps were placed along the area to prevent landslides, but they were not very effective. Many of them were "pulled" into the riverbed by landslides.
Many crops that have held the soil for a long time were also eroded and buried under water.
Banana trees planted by people have been eroded or are lying on the water's edge.
In the working minutes dated August 19, 2025 between the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Tu Vu Commune People's Committee, Traffic Police Department of Phu Tho Provincial Police and Thanh Cong Construction and Investment Company Limited (the unit that is organizing sand and gravel exploitation in the area), the Department of Agriculture and Environment and related units confirmed that there is a landslide situation and it is becoming complicated. The Department has requested Thanh Cong Construction and Trading Company Limited to exploit minerals in accordance with the licensed content and on time. Tu Vu Commune People's Committee has strengthened the inspection and supervision of mineral exploitation activities of licensed units; organized the installation of warning signs in landslide areas and assigned people to regularly monitor and prevent people and livestock from entering this area. |
The area of landslides is increasing day by day and is at risk of losing the entire alluvial plain in the area and people's crops.
“We will continue to monitor and report to superiors regularly about the landslide situation in this area, and at the same time re-install the lost warning signs; strictly prohibit people from grazing livestock and farming in this area,” Mr. Nguyen Van Duc - Chairman of Tu Vu Commune People's Committee affirmed to reporters.
Regarding the pineapple tarps that are being installed with the purpose of anchoring the land to prevent landslides, which are still present in this area, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao - Head of Area 2 said: "The residential area is aware of this, however, we do not know which individual or organization is constructing this."
Phu Tho Newspaper, Radio and Television will continue to inform about the regional situation when there are new developments.
