The Roland Garros 2025 final in Paris (France) on the evening of June 8 lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes, the longest in the history of the tournament. Jannik Sinner could not hide his regret when he won the first two sets (6-4, 7-6), led 5-3 in set 4 and had 3 championship-points (the point that ends the match to win the championship), but still let Alcaraz come back with a score of 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2).

It was the first time in the Open Era that a player had won a Grand Slam final after being down two sets and facing three title points. Notably, Sinner had suffered five consecutive defeats against Alcaraz.
Alcaraz leads Sinner 8-4 in head-to-head matches, including five straight wins, including two clay court finals this year at the Rome Masters and Roland Garros. Before losing to Alcaraz in the final, Jannik Sinner had won 20 straight sets and had not dropped a set at Roland Garros 2025.
Sinner could not hide his pain after losing to Alcaraz: “I definitely won’t sleep well after this defeat, everything is fine. I need to forget this defeat, look at the positives and move on. The decisive points in set 4, the tie-break in set 5 will be the things that haunt me.
No one can change the past, it happened. Now it's time for me to receive the love from my family and teammates. Whatever happened, I never thought I would be in this position in the world of tennis."

Despite losing the final of Roland Garros 2025, Jannik Sinner is still firmly in the world number one position with 10,880 points. Carlos Alcaraz, after winning his second Grand Slam title on clay, has defended his score and is now 2,030 points behind Sinner.
Novak Djokovic, despite being knocked out in the semi-finals by Sinner, has risen to No. 5 in the world. This is considered a great effort by the 38-year-old Serbian star, in his quest for his first ATP title since November 2023.
Young talents Jack Draper rose to 4th place and Lorenzo Musetti entered the world's Top 6. Alexander Zverev was deducted 900 points and Casper Ruud lost 750 points and dropped 8 places to 16th place in the world.
